I rewatched it last night, and it’s utterly ridiculous. Travolta and Cage with the worst acting I’ve ever seen. The action scenes were awful. I even saw one of the Stunt guys wires as he was being blown away.

Reading some of the critics reviews, makes me wonder if we even watched the same movie.

Because it's an amazing piece of entertainment?

It is pure unhinged action grandeur.

I never thought that I would have to say this, but...

Can we have one Face/Off active thread at a time?

Which hardly ever rate as high as a 92%.

I'm blown away by this as well. Maybe John Woo got the benefit of the doubt back then, even though the entire movie was cliche and pretty corny.

Because Cage is so bad that he is awesome. How does is this not commonly known?

I never finished it because it was just awful.

I'm at a loss - I mean, I generally lean on RT without taking it as gospel, but a 92% would imply this movie is far, far better than what I saw. And I had lowered expectations due to the trailers and the relatively low ceiling Travolta and Cage have as actors (now - don't get me wrong, they have been occasionally brilliant, but not consistently). Even tempering expectations, the movie is unwatchable from my perspective - not even bad in an entertaining way - just awful.

The audience score is an 82% which almost makes it even worse.

You're clearly watching it with the wrong set of eyes.

I used to really like this movie but it has not stood the test of time like The Rock or Con Air.

John Wick is an 86, 2 is an 89. The Killer is a 98. The Raid 85. Etc. Plenty of Films in that grouping.

There's something uniquely Shakespearian about the whole movie that probably hits critics differently than audiences. The weirdness in Face/Off, mixed with that grandeur, and the identity game in the film make it super unique.

Dress up like it’s Halloween, and ghouls will try to get into your pants.

The movie just gave practical advice.

Nice to know that your opinions on movies are forever to be ignored.

Why is that a problem?
The movie absolutely shines in its ridiculous.

I mean, at the end, when Nick Cage returns to his family, he walks through the door and there's fog everywhere.
In the house!
I think there may have been doves flying, too.

If you recognize how over the top everything is, including the performances, you'll appreciate how fun it is and how interesting the ideas are.
