If you recognize how over the top everything is, including the performances, you'll appreciate how fun it is and how interesting the ideas are.
Yup.

Fog is a common tool in stage productions, regardless of the scene, because it's an easy to add texture to a scene. Just saying.

Because it's an enjoyable movie.

In the house!
Archer (Travolta) returns home with his stolen kid. CASTOR TROY (Cage) is dead.
Also people always focus on how Archer and Troy would've had different dicks so the wife should've noticed but their sex styles would've been even more different. Castor is obviously a freak and isn't doing the vanilla sex the repressed Archer likely enjoys.

Maybe the wife was digging it? She's settling in for some ho hum missionary with the lights off and he goes all Euron Greyjoy on her.

She enjoyed it just a little. You could tell through the rest of the movie. Archer/Nick Cage not banging the brunette broad was just all around frustrating but adds to the kind of person he is, deep down inside.

It's kind of stupid. Have you tried to rewatch it lately? It's on netflix right now. I tried and couldn't get into it. I don't think it's aged well.

Watched it while answering emails and working on the weekend. It was as good as I remembered

I love how the face transplant give you a different hair cut and body size somehow

She totally was. Maybe Archer would realize it once she starts asking for anal.

The movie is half music video with slo-mo's galore and tons action and flying doves.
It's like an over-the-top Die Hard. I mean there are tons of slo-mo's just for mundane scenes just like in music videos.
Like JJ loves flares, Woo loved the slo-mo shot.
It's just pure entertainment to the extreme..."pulp fiction" if you will.
I mean the movie has a Humvee playing chicken with a Jet on a runway.
And then the plane can't take off because a helicopter lands on it.
Hollywood imported Woo for this over-the-top ridiculous action.
And everytime someone shoots, they are diving to the ground. (in Slo-mo.)
People think Con-Air is the epitome of excessive over-the-top but it's Face/Off.
And that's why people love it.

It seems too low, right?

Reading some of the critics reviews, makes me wonder if we even watched the same movie.
How about reading this board's opinions: LINK

never thought that I would have to say this, but...
Can we have one Face/Off active thread at a time?
Yeah. Mine.

Even tempering expectations, the movie is unwatchable from my perspective - not even bad in an entertaining way - just awful.

I started an entire thread dedicated to its awesomeness after I saw it on Netflix last week.

Just I figured, a lot of bad opinions in that thread.

I mean, is Holy Grail a great film? Poor acting, poor set design, terrible costumes, thin characters, barely a plot to speak of outside of a long walk. Weird deus ex machinas. Bad special effects, bad script. 4th wall breaking. Unreal scenes. But yet, you go with it and laugh.
Objectively speaking, it's a terrible film. Subjectively speaking, it's the top tier in comedy.
Every film doesn't have to have a pristine plot, perfect acting, perfect special effects, etc. It's all about what the film is trying to do. Face/Off isn't playing it straight like a Die Hard or a Terminator. It is pure excessive film making, acting, action sequences, etc. And there's nothing wrong with that if done right. And it does it right.
If you can't appreciate that, that's fine, it isn't your cup of tea. If other people do, it doesn't mean they have bad opinions, they just see it differently. There are LOTS of people who think Holy Grail is stupid. Honestly, the uniqueness of Face/Off is a HUGE strength. We have plenty of straight guy action heroes, who don't want to be heroes, who get in some gun fights and win in the end. What we don't have a lot of is movies like Face/Off, and that's ok. At least we have one.
