The weak spot in this show is there is no likable character, there's nobody to cheer for, and nobody who's death would be emotional.

I tend to agree. For me, Rhaenys was the most likeable character.

Maybe they develop Rhaenyra more, but I’m indifferent to her. Although I like her more now that they’re making her do things rather than sitting at Dragonstone doing nothing.

Idk, I feel like GOT had much more impactful character development and interaction where you were forced to decide who you liked.

We’re not getting that with HOD since the main characters are just kind of off doing their own thing.

We need interaction between Rhanyra and Daemon (I’m so sick of his Harenhall story line), we need interaction between Rhaenyra and the Greens, etc.

It’s visually stunning, but the plot needs a serious shot in the arm.

I think part of the issue is the source material. In GOT you had 5 books of character development. HOTD is being produced based of a historical account. Fire & Blood is nothing like the novels, so you rely on writers to fill in all of these gaps, and you just don't care for the characters.

As much as I loathe the fat man for never finsihing the novels, he wrote excellent characters and dailogue, as evidenced by the precipitous drop in quality in seasons 7 and 8 of GOT.

Man seeing the dragons assemble was so badass but they have got to move this thing along at a better pace. I defended the pace early in the season but here we are at the end and literally nothing has happened. The Dameon thing is just eye rolling at this point

I'm in the same boat. Don't get me wrong, this is a very good show but it definitely fails to reach GOT levels of incredible. Point and case is that this thread will only last a couple of days before it dies. The GOT threads went Sunday to Sunday.

Agreed, something isnt adding up. Is all this in the book?

Yes. In the book though, they don't tell you how they attempted to claim dragons. Just that the bastards were called upon and many died in the attempt. The blacks do have a glut of dragons on the book though.

Pretty much same boat here. At times it feels like Daemon has been at Harrenhal so long that I have to remind myself why he went there in the first place.

Hugh Hammer's mother, the one he was too ashamed to tell his wife about, was Saera Targaryen, the ostracized daughter of King Jaehaerys. She is one of the most interesting, most compelling members of House Targaryen in history. And thanks to her bastard son she's far more important than we ever knew.

IDK that that is true. Like you said, Saera is Jahaerys's daughter while Daemon and Viserys were the sons of Baelon the Brave. Hugh said his mom was siblings with Daemon and Viserys so that would mean that she is a bastard of Baelon.

Can someone be nice and give me the background of the guy that Deamen supposedly cut the head off of?

That was Willem Blackwood. The Blackwoods have always hated the Brackens and when Daemon told him to bring them to heal for declaring for team green, Willem sacked the Brackens. Oscar Tully was pissed because the blackwoods acted without the permission of their leige lord and he knows that they may have acted on order of Daemon but they yearned for that order because of their hatred.

It’s been confirmed it was Saera Targaryen which means Hugh is cousins with Viserys and Daemon

Again, It can't be confirmed. Saera was Jahaerys's daughter and Viserys and Daemon were Baelon's kids. If she was siblings to Viserys and Daemon, she cannot be Saera.

Why change it up and then make him rail against it in the show?

It does make sense that he might have an issue with it. His mom is just kicking the can down the road and making his claim more difficult. The plan should be to use the bastards to win the war and then murder them

The show met its DEI quota and didn't need another dark skinned character.

Now that he has the second biggest Dragon in the world, he will be a more central character.

No, he said he was just like her brother's children, Viserys and Daemon.

Hugh's mother was almost certainly Saera Targaryen,

Viserys and Daemon weren't Jahaerys's children so Hugh's mom can't be Saera.

Right. It got you when big characters died in GoT.
Ned in season one was a huge shock to non book readers.
Hodors death was a shock to all too.

This show the top cast could all die and I don't think many would care.

The dragon deaths sting way worse than any of the human characters.

With such a cryptic description, we can’t decide at this point whether Hugh’s mother was King Jaehaerys I Targaryen’s bastard daughter, or a full-blooded Targaryen. But if the series is following George R.R. Martin’s works directly on this one, Hugh’s mother just may well be Princess Saera Targaryen.

‘House of the Dragon’ Reveals Hugh the Hammer is the Son of Saera Targaryen, the Princess Who Became a Prostitute

The Tab

House of the Dragon actor, Kieran Brew who plays Hugh the Hammer admitted there is nobody else his mother could be other than Saera Targaryen. If that’s not enough confirmation, I don’t know what is
