I thought this episode was fantastic. Definitely did not see that coming with Criston.
I admittedly am surprised that Viserys is still alive in the jump forward. By the looks of the characters, I’m guessing it’s a ~10-15 year jump ahead?
I haven’t read the books so I’m a bit confused by the green symbology. I know they mentioned it in one of the scenes

For the sake of not spoiling going forward, one of the Strong brothers mentioned that the color of the light they light at Oldtown to call the banners (the seat for the Hightower family) when they are going to war is the color green.
And to step further beyond that, a Targaryen Queen is expected to wear Targaryen Red/Black colors. Particularly at such an event. She instead chose to wear a color associated with her maiden house (you could see the other Hightowers were wearing green/gold-ish attire). Pretty big, public slap on the face to Viserys and Rhaenyra.

Having said that, this show continues to deliver. I can't decide if it's as good as the OG series, or if it's because I had such low expectations. But this show is excellent in a lower-key way.
That wedding scene was masterclass in slow-burn-dread and storytelling.

They also played well the bait and switch with Daemon/Rhaenyra and Criston Cole/Laenor’s paramour. When you hear that sword come out of its sheath you think for sure it’s Daemon.

Same here, seems like it was a mistake to replace them. The audience gets attached to these two in their roles and now they are gone. Maybe this is a bad take, we'll see. Really good episode.

What did the gay guy have to gain by going tell Christon he knows? That was kinda dumb on his part. Acting like an attention whore/drama queen lead to him getting his face smashed in.
Why is Alicient so upset about Rhaenyra and Cole? I understand it got her dad sent away but shouldn't she be relieved it was Cole and not Daemon?

I don't think she is upset. I think she was just plain stunned when she realized what she stumbled into.
She is at heart a decent woman. Cole told her the princess instigated the whole thing. She sees him about to kill himself and understands why, he has a character better than this world deserves and she knows it. She can't let him kill himself because doing so would run counter to her nature.

She’s out here fricking a crusty (literally it looks like) old guy and the Princess is able to actually be with someone for pleasure. And then she’s going to be marrying someone who is going to allow her to continue doing pretty much whatever she wants outside of their political match.
