Is aligning with House Hightower really that bad of a choice though
Well they are making the show, so yes lol

Well when you put it that way

Why was that particular dragon egg so essential that it made everyone change tune so quickly

Shows amazing so far and we haven’t even gotten a lot of action.

Definitely less action in this episode but it still held my undivided attention.
I’m not finished but it’s the most PG episode of GoT I’ve ever seen. One F word at dragon stone was it.

The characters and acting is superb.
Yeah, both of the girls have done a great job with facial expressions.

King Viserys really fricked up choosing companionship over political strategy.
Yep, he pulled a "Rob Stark" move.

So about the King's choice of his next wife, obviously he should have made the correct political choice and went with the Sea Snake's daughter. Is aligning with House Hightower really that bad of a choice though?
I think it’s not a great choice when you could align yourself with the man that holds the sea (and you the air with your dragons). And the Hightowers at this point are noble but not not of valyrian blood.
And while it’s super cringe by today’s standards, the wild age gaps in marriages wasn’t exactly historically untrue (especially in England). I want to say Catherine Howard was something like 13-14 when she married almost 50 year old Henry VIII after his annulment to Anne of Cleves.

Also, havent seen it pointed out, but the king knows he’s sick and isn’t certain how much time he has.
He couldn’t bed the other girl for at least 2 years. He doesn’t know if he even has 2 years. Where as Alicent he can endure his line right away.

Can we also discuss that only GOT would have a serious coversation scene going on while one man is holding his hand in a plate of maggots? Like NBD.

It’s not just focused on one house.
You have the Targaryens who currently have power (and really have factions within between Viserys, Daemon, and Rhaenyra).
You have the Velayron with Corlys, his wife (the Queen Who Never Was), and his power of the navy.
You have the Hightowers, which are being highly elevated with Otto as the Hand and now his daughter soon to be Queen Alicent.
And it will only get more complicated as we progress because of the line of succession.
All perfect points. I know it got renewed for S2, so I wonder how far this season goes. The book isn't all that long, and we already know there are time jumps. This episode was 6 months later. We saw Aegon as a baby, but I didn't catch if that was next episode or a season preview.
Reading the book it was hard for me to pick a side, but it was exciting when it really gets going. I wonder how many years will jump by the end of the season.

The king’s cousin pimping her daughter for him to marry, with the catch that he has to wait until she’s 14 to consummate it, probably took it to PG13.
But yes, probably the most basic cable episode of all time.

quote:kinda crazy that the whole ordeal with daemon and the dragon egg is like less than a paragraph in the book.
The book isn't all that long
It’s nice they have a guide but aren’t beholden to the expectation that comes with a full text.

I was thinking this too. A lot can happen over two years. He might not make it while he waits to procreate.

I think Otto was gambling on Daemon not challenging the crown there. Killing the hand and two Kingsguard would be hard to let slide.
What was Daemon's strategy there then? He made up the shite about getting married and the woman being pregnant and invited Viserys to the wedding after stealing a dragon egg. He was obviously trying to provoke him. I think that if Raenyra hadn't shown up he may have very well been intending to torch Otto.

I get the impression that Daemon isn’t a big Hightower fan and would love an excuse to wipe his arse across the floor.
Especially since he openly mentioned he thought he should be Hand in the first episode. I think he feels a certain blood loyalty to his brother, but doesn’t want to be stuck behind second in line.

Hearing the GOT theme was awesome at first but I kinda wish they had their own score made.

Why do they have to introduce a whore with a terrible accent in this show too? Was Shae not enough in GoT?
No other complaints with this episode, I enjoyed it.

To be fair, she is a real character in the text. So she’s not being made up for the show. GRRM just had a thing for elevating whores apparently.
