Definitely setting up a real GOT feel.
Yeah the final 15 minutes or so and then ending with the GoT theme song were really strong. Looks like a solid prequel. Rhaneyra supplanting Daemon as heir sets up a solid storyline

I enjoyed the episode. The jousting/medieval c-section scene was brutal af. Good shite.

Nice catch. Guess they had to re-use alot of GoT gear.
ETA: As this story is already written, following the source material is an easy A with this level of production quality.
Feels Goodman to be excited about this world again.

I agree. Very solid episode.

Just finished it. I liked it. I was skeptical, but I enjoyed every minute (not in a sick, creepy, you like to see shite cut off way, but a compelling storyline way).
I'm team Daemon. I know he lost his joust and fight to the Dornish guy, but he is a likeable villain.

Another dumb question, I could be completely wrong on this but the Baratheon stag had a crown on it I thought. I swore that was only placed on the sigil after they took the throne. Any book readers please feel free to correct.
Pretty sure it always had the crown because the Baratheons are descended from House Durrandon who originally had a variation of the sigil:
quote:
During the Conquest, Orys Baratheon, one of Aegon Targaryen's fiercest generals, and rumored to be his bastard brother, slew Argilac the Arrogant, last of the Storm Kings, and married his daughter, Argella.[1] Orys adopted the sigil and words of his wife's ancestral line, so creating House Baratheon of Storm's End, with his descendants having the blood of the Durrandons flowing in their veins.[4]
This was the Durrandon sigil:

i had my doubts coming in, but that episode was strong as hell. old school GOT feel from like the early seasons.
The casting is impressive...i like all of the actors on the king's council especially the hand of the king

He does kick a solid FG though.

He still made the choice to bleed his wife to death for what wasn’t a sure thing based on her history of losing children. So yes, there telling you something about his desires and current mindset with that
It wasn't a sure thing that the kid was going to live with the c-section, but it was a sure thing that both would die without the c-section.
So it comes down to a 100% chance of losing both, vs a less than 100% chance of losing both. It was the only choice.

I must have missed how the kid died... when they came to the council and discussed naming heirs, I was thinking "didn't he just have a boy? Is this because the baby's an infant or something?"
Like I said, I will give it a few episodes to build some steam. Right now, nobody is really standing out, other than the Hand.
I suspect we will be getting a repeat of this person is the hero, no wait, he's a dick. And vice-versa.
Not real impressed with the princess, she seems a bit on the fugly side. Nothing awful, I just expected something hotter from this show.

Except it wasn’t, he said it was in the gods hands. You may have interpreted that as 1000% implied they both die, I disagree though

Episode was pretty boring. Characters aren't that great. I'll keep watching, but hopefully it gets more interesting.

It was definitely a good start. I too didn't realize the baby boy had died until reading the thread. I'll tune in the weeks ahead.

Except it was. The grand maester literally said "a father has to make an impossible choice... to sacrifice one, or lose them both."
He had to make that call to possibly save the child.
