I don't really think this is the debate that HBO thinks it is. It's pretty one sided. Not saying there aren't team green out there, but it's a minority.
Currently on episode 5 of the rewatch. Crazy how much the actresses that played Alicent look alike. The time jump actually looks right with them, not so much Rhaenyra.

I actually think both sides have pretty good arguments for why you should support them, they just didn't do a good job at making green likable because the story is mostly driven through the lense of Rhaenyra.
And I think a lot of returning GOT fans would go with Black simply because of the houses they will be aligned with.

We also haven't quite gotten to the parts where Rhaenyra shows her darker side, which should change pretty dramatically this season.

The main thing that stood out to me on the rewatch was the sets/production of HotD vs GoT.
It was odd that the dragons 100% looked better than GoT and especially when riding the dragons. But the set designs and props on HotD were pretty bad at times. The weirwood trees look like plastics trees just spray painted with white paint and the brightest red paint that you could buy from home depot. The carriages that they rode in looked like some design from the future.
Granted, this is still better than almost everything else that is out there so it's nitpicking, but there were some cheesy set design pieces that seemed out of place, especially considering how good they did with the dragons.

I thought the production was incredible for season 1. Im pissed that there are only 8 episodes for season two because 10 would have led us into college football week 0

Let's be real.
There are going to be no good guys here. We are going to enjoy one giant train wreck

I’m just glad they have the whole story in advance this time and we don’t get the disaster that was GOT 7&8. Hopefully they see it through seasons 3&4 faithfully since the fat man has already ironed it out.

The general story is laid out but there is some ambiguity that the show runners have to work with because GRRM writes a lot of things through multiple conflicting viewpoints.
The same event can be told in multiple different ways because of how murky the history is between when the event happened and when the history we’re reading is being pieced together.
For example, the death of Beesbury of the Small Council was very ambiguous in the books with claims he died in the Black Cells or that Criston Cole tossed him out a window. Turned out that Cole bitchsmacked him and ended up caving his skull in, making it a total accident but still a death caused by Kingmaker.
Same with Aemond and the death of Jace. The death was confirmed but the circumstances were murky, such as whether Jace crashed avoiding Aemond or if Aemond had his dragon kill Jace internally. Turned out that dragons don’t necessarily listen to their riders and killed Jace and his dragon because it decided to.

Team Green as well but I don't see a reason why we can't have civilized discussions about the show.

I find Team Green more sympathetic.
Alicient was a child bride groomed by her father to marry a weak old king who just wanted to use her as a broodmare.
She gives him the sons he's always been obsessed with and then he ignores them completely in favor of his spoiled adult daughter and her illegitimate love children.
Really it all comes down to Viserys. If he was determined that his daughter should succeed him then remarrying and having sons is about the dumbest thing he could have done.

Eh, you have to look at it from actual monarchy perspectives. You always want an heir and a spare. Aemma died trying to give him the spare.
The other thing to take into consideration is that Viserys did not want his brother, Daemon, to be his heir. And in a realm where Rhaenyra could've just as easily died in childbirth as her mother did, it made sense for Viserys to have other heirs behind her with Alicent.

The team who had a plan put together to usurp the throne before the "confusion" with Visery's final words ever even came to light.
People dislike Alicent because of her holier than thou attitude toward everything while also aligning herself with murders (Cole, Larys Strong). She's not completely hated simply because she still shows some compassion for Rhaenyra.

Could be a smoke screen, but rumor has it that Daemon becomes haunted by his demons this seasons and turns into a raging vagina.
A producer said she was upset that so many fans liked Daemon. I could definitely see this girl boss making sure Daemon is taken down a peg or two.

I thought it was interesting that the show portrayed Alicent as interpreting Viserys dying words as about her and her children. Taking that into consideration, you can see why Alicent thought she was in the right by naming her son as the heir. But I think deep down that was what she truly wanted anyway so it was an easy mental jump for her.
On the flipside of that, she's upset that she didn't have a love match. But she could've done far, far worse (think Sansa in GoT) than being married to a man who from all accounts while old when married was a decent man. And as you point out, she definitely plays enabler to people like Crispy and Lord Clubfoot.

Yeah she interpreted those last words the way she wanted to interpret them.
Kinda like how fans will see the same football replay but come to totally different conclusions depending on if it benefits their team or not.

don't forget that next year we are also getting Dunk & Egg on HBO, which takes place during the Blackfyre Rebellion era. So if there is a 2 year break again, at least we have some more material/storylines to entertain us.

Season 1 SPOILERS BELOW:
I can't wait for Sunday. Just finished my rewatch of Season 1. There was only 1 scene that didn't make much sense that maybe someone can enlighten me on:
When Rhaenys busts through the floor with her dragon, why didn't she light up the Hightowers and end the war right then and there? At that point, she had already chosen a side and the Hightowers had already shown that they view her as an enemy. Why spare them when you know its going to lead to more carnage in the war that inevitably will follow?
I get that they didn't have her kill them because the show is based on books and there is a war does in fact take place. BUT, knowing that, why not just have Rhaenys sneak out the dragon pit door with her dragon and fly away? having the dramatic scene where she confronts the Hightowers but does nothing was some season 7 & 8 GoT shite.
With that said, that event was 5 minutes of the entire season and by no means diminishes the show or its trajectory as a whole. Just thought it was a strange choice given that it makes no logical sense.
