You are absolutely right. For whatever reason I thought the series was set in the early 1800s. I did notice some things used in sets that hadn't been invented yet (rubber tires in carriages for example), but I thought it was just minor errors. It just flowed they never mentioned their grandfathers' brewing legacy, only their fathers.
Again, I was talking about the four children's grandfather and the fact that all the names were reused for the next generation didn't clue me in.

Yes show is set in 1868, when Benjamin Guinness dies.

Im on Episode 3. It's interesting but no Peaky Blinders.

Knocked out the first two episodes. It’s decent. Has that Peaky feel. James Norton as Mr. Rafferty feels like the only actor with really strong aura right now though.

I am 3 episodes in and this show is enjoyable but no where near as good as Peaky Blinders. The acting is over dramatized and the show tries to sniff its own farts too often. Still pretty damn entertaining and I will contibue to watch.

I just finished the season and it does get better. I was pretty into it by the final episode. On another note, when Byron Hedges appeared I knew I had seen the actor somewhere else and that I instinctively disliked him but couldn't place him so I looked it up. The actor, Jack Gleeson played Joffriey on GOT. (Forehead slap moment). I called my daughter into the room and asked her if she recognized this actor. She said "Yeah, that's Joffrey." in about 2 secs. Im terrible at knowing where I've seen actors before. For instance, David Chapman who played Bonnie Chapman was familiar. I looked him up too. He was in Black Sails. Anyway, as you were.

Watching it now...good series.

Ahhhh! He was very familiar, but I couldn't place him, either. He just reminded me of this instagram dude who does a ton of funny commentary videos on stuff (can't remember the account right now)... on I know. @freezertarps (cheddy)

Spoilers:
I just finished it as well. I actually really liked it, but I wasn't very fond with them ending the season the way they did. It seemed to be too abrupt of an ending with no resolution.
I'm wondering if the Cochrane brother was there to actually shoot Arthur, or if he was actual there to shoot Edward since everyone knows that Edward is the real driving force behind the success of the family, even the Fenians know that (or at least they should). Also it is Edward that he actually hates since Edward was bedding his sister and was the one responsible for sending him to NY. But since they just cut right after he pulled the trigger, now we have to hope the show gets a second season to know for sure.

Woah Dude. At least put the word "Spoiler" at the top of your post. This isn't an episode discussion thread. Some of us aren't done yet and others will read this thread to see if they want to watch it.

I edited my post with a spoiler note, but I’m not sure I needed to since this is a series discussion and all of the episodes have been out long enough to watch all of them. If I was worried about being spoiled then I wouldn’t be looking into a full show thread past the first page.

Thanks for editing. I’ll add a spoiler tag so feel free to discuss now

Crazy but true story. The St James Gate Brewery in Dublin was leased in 1759 to Arthur Guinness at £45 per year for 9,000 years.

I have heard rumor that there is a school in New Orleans that has a 100 year lease with the city for like $1 per year or something like that. I've never seen the lease so I can't fully confirm but have heard it on a few occasions.

Agree. Felt like an episode cliffhanger more than a season cliffhanger. Kind of bullshite.

99/100 year leases for negligible amounts of money are pretty damn common. Hospitals, schools, etc.

Exactly, it was an episode ending/cliffhanger and not a season ending/cliffhanger.
Again, I really liked the series, just wish they would've ended the season better. Hopefully they get greenlit for another season.
So does anyone else think that the assassination attempt is actually meant for Edward and not Arthur, or am I giving too much credit to the Fenians for them to know that Edward is the actual driving force of the family's success?

I think it was meant for Edward. Enjoyed the show, hopefully a second season is coming.
