I don’t really like Rhaenys this season either tbh. She was fine in season 1. Doesn’t really matter though because she’s about to die.
Sure. And I don't have an issue with saying, "Eh, I'm not crazy about her". But MadKing is reeling because he thinks she's the worst character on the show and the most hypocritical (their words). And doesn't really provide evidence for that, while claiming her does.

Still, the Aemonds and Dameons of the world making shite worse while the women meet to talk reason in an unrealistic scenario? Tell me that's not forced.
Daemon is currently trying to rectify that and Aemon is one of the most likeable characters on the show while Alicent and Rhaenyra have also made shite worse. It's worked both ways with this show and with all of the characters you mentioned.

My issue isn’t about if she would be a good monarch or not. It’s that she’s going to be the first big character death of the show so they are giving her more screen time than the character really needs to garner as much audience investment in the character as possible.

Responding to an attack is attacking? Like I said, you’re a moron

And I'd argue that the conversation scene with Alicent and Rhaenyra shows their own flaws. Rhaenyra wants to believe Alicent deep down is still the young women she grew up with (she's not) and Alicent looks like an absolute clown for believing what she did on Viserys's death bed confession when he was so heavily under the influence of Milk of the Poppy. The reality is she just wanted her kid on the throne and was willing to use that as the vehical. That's horribly flawed.
I don't know that anyone is saying the show doesn't portray them as flawed or even incompetent at times. I think some are just reacting to the nuanced portrayal of the Hightowers (especially Alicent) in the show vs how I think most people thought of them after reading the books.
Anyway, I just want to say I appreciate you being willing to engage on this topic and you make some good points. Now that talking things out has been exhausted as an option, we should ge a much more rapid spiral into chaos with plenty of blame to go around .

Well, it doesn't necessarily make as good of a story (I think you pointed that out at some point) if Alicent is just a raging bitch. And like we've already discussed, it makes sense that they need to fill in blanks because of the text they're adapting.

Same to you.
Yeah, we've reached the whole lot of people gonna die part of the story. Which is probably why they've also put some emphasis on the "between the lines" part of the story in the first half of the season. I expect the second to be pretty chaotic.

Would love to see how I attacked you.
Back to the point of the thread though....Rhaenys is awesome. Probably my favorite character. She advised the council to take a step back, maybe listen to their queen a bit, and not rush to war. She's concerned about a war breaking out, especially with dragons involved (as everyone should be). She's probably been the most even-keeled, reserved, and consistent character on the show.

you know none of this is real, right?

And yet she’s about to be the first to die in the first dragon on dragon battle in the war in likely the literal next episode. Going to be interesting. To be fair Rooks is a trap in the books at least idk how they will portray it on the show.

Ok let’s be civil, she advised as you said and Raeynera even went so far as to go meet Alicent face to face and what was the outcome? Raeynera is way behind in terms of gaming this out which is what her advisers were telling her and what Deamon’s been saying since last season. This is my point brother

I guess the question is, what else do you fill that in with?
We could maybe argue that you fill it with Daemon at Harrenhal. I do like how they've portrayed the castle and it's haunting demeanor. It definitely fits the ominous description in multiple ASOIAF texts at this point. They got that spot on.

Either more Daemon or use that time spent a little in Old Town with Daeron. They will have to bring him into the show eventually and mentioned him already.
ETA: if they actually put Baela at Rooks like I suspect where she wasn’t in the books then more time focused on Rhaenys makes more sense.

Let him cook.

Well yeah, she's been way too slow at accepting reality here. I understand where she's coming from even if it is a poor choice.

It feels like they're setting up Daeron's introduction with Hugh and Ulf's appearances in the last couple of episodes.
