Just remembered the convo in which Tracey worried Ted would end up living in the past. Well, I guess in a way he moved on from her, but he still ended up living in the past.

The whole point of his story to his kids wasn't about meeting their mother. It was a red herring. His daughter even said that. Why is that so hard to understand

I hated the last season, but I liked the ending. But from the kids' perspective, they should have been heartbroken. Dad tells them this story that's mostly about everyone but their mother. Sure the kids want him to move on, but the kids are supposed to be happy that dad actually had two loves of his life?

Great read for those who hated the ending. Or even those who liked it to see why some may hate it.

The first 8 seasons were how I met your stepmother. The last season was how I met your mother.

It's How I Met Your Mother - a.k.a, everything leading up to him meeting her, before the kids are born/old enough to remember. They know the rest of the story with their mom.

Well, once the mom has been gone a while...why not?

I could have spent 5 minutes explaining the characters to someone who hadnt watched a single episode and they could have watched the finale and understood everything

Did not like

You could say that for literally any comedy show ever.

Glad you enjoyed it. I hope others read it as well. Very well put together, especially for getting it out within 1.5hours of the show ending.

dont understand the hate, the series started with ted and robin. we were beat across the face for years about ted and robin. ted meets the mom and its a great match, its not like if she wouldn't have died that ted would have went and banged robin on the side. Tracy didn't want Ted to be miserable, the guy greived for 6 years after the death and it wasn't until going back through the memories with his kids that the realization of him being with robin was there.

Definitely. It's a great read. Sums up my feelings perfectly. Hits every point that needs to be hit IMO.

I'll still love the show but I'm just going to have to ignore the last 10 minutes of the series lol

It's not that we didn't think it would happen. We all knew it was certainly possible.

It's the delivery of it.

It's not that we didn't see it coming. It's that after what we went through with this whole season at the wedding and getting to know the mother, it felt wrong.

She passed away. 6 years went by with Ted probably being miserable. The mom wanted Ted to be happy, he had someone who could make him happy. Kids were cool with it. Hell im surprised the ending wasn't well dad thanks for scarring us for life by telling us about the all the chicks you nailed and your threesome. We met the mother this season and she was awesome, they were a perfect pair but shite happens in life and Ted deserved to be able to be happy and move on.

One continuity blunder: I remember in one episode, they "flash-forward" to the guys watching TV with Ted and a baby girl. He was wearing a wedding ring. I think in tonight's episode the daughter was born in 2016?

Honestly, they implied what was going to happen SO heavily through the first 50 minutes of the finale, I think it should have ended with the umbrella scene.

It would have left us all speculating that the mom dies, and he does date Robin eventually, but without the "Hey, look how cute these two are!" and seconds later "Dad, mom's been dead SIX YEARS! GET OVER IT!"

Maybe he wore a male engagement ring like Cory in Boy Meets World.

People will defend anything that they care about to the bitter end. Case and point, this finale. It sucked. "It's a sitcom, get over it" seems to be a popular one. Scrubs was also a sitcom with the same relationship back and forth and they have one of the best series finales you will ever see. That last two minutes can not be unseen.

It took us 9 years to have all of the story, he could've told the story to his kids in a few hours for all we know. I think they made it obvious the mother was sick a majority of the time they were together with their conversation at the hotel. The kids realize this, it's been six years, why not let their dad go. Even the mom had given him permission. I liked the finale, was a fitting end to a show that showed how getting old sucks lol. I don't blame Ted, he was alone for six years before he pursued a girl he loved again. Who wouldn't

Seems like they were always going to stick with that ending regardless of how the rest of the season(s) went, since they went through the trouble of pre-recording it in the first place.

As if the directors were like, "So, Ted and Traci have their kids, get married and live happily ever after...but wait, he's supposed to end up with Robin? Um...quick, kill off Traci and have Ted wait 6 years, all in the span of 2 minutes! There, that should put it together."

The problem was they spent 22 episode on Barney and robins wedding and introducing the mother only to throw away those two relationships and refocus the entire show on ted and robin during the finale. But that's not really the finales fault. Putting robin and Barney together in the first place was the biggest mistake the show made
