But you don't know how many different things they got the kids to do for possible endings. Id pretty pretty shocked if that was the only one they did since you never know what can happen. Actors can quit or die or can decide to change the show entirely.

I think they had the idea of the mom behind ted when he finishes the story and the kids say some other bs. All kinds of different things.

It was a terrible ending. We are supposed to believe that:
-Ted, the guy that cannot wait to get married, have kids, and grow old waited FIVE YEARS after getting engaged to get married
-The kids, after being FORCED to sit and hear their dad RAMBLE on end about "How I Met Your Mother" are not only OK with only hearing a tiny bit of the story about their DEAD mother, be be ecstatic that the story is really about Aunt Robin.
-The kids are THRILLED that their dad is now going to go after Aunt Robin, even though she shite on all of her best friends over the years because she is a selfish bitch.
-Apparently Barney is going to be okay with this too, or that Ted is ok shitting on one of his best friends to chase the girl that shite on the life of said best friend.

The umbrella scene was one of the greatest scenes in the series history and would have been the perfect ending, but instead we get the ending that makes me want to rip my TV from the wall and throw it out the window.

introducing the mother only to throw away those two relationships

how was that relationship thrown away? we saw them live a perfect life together with 2 kids. she was part of the gang for years and even went to robot vs wrestler.

Robin and Barney were terrible together but it was all part of their journeys. Robin thought she was this independent girl who didn't want the romance and the sappy guy her whole adult life. Barney grew up gave the relationship 3 years but realized if it wasnt working with her then frick it, back to his old ways.

I'm not a fan of how they ended it but I actually liked that. It showed that Ted knew she was the one and didn't care about the little things anymore. Life just happened. It showed that she really was teds true love that he has always been looking for. But then they fricked it up with robin

I watched the entire last season today with two friends in order to catch up to see the finale. What a pile of shite. I even enjoyed the season up till the last ep. All they had to do was not frick it up but they got too worried about making it too cliche I guess so they threw in all these curveballs at the last minute. Just terrible.

So I could've just skipped the entire show and watched the finale, because nothing that happened during the run makes a difference.

Sort of like Lost

d you enjoyed it. I hope others read it as well. Very well put together, especially for getting it out within 1.5hours of the show ending.

That was a good article.

They really did just go out and burn the bridge for syndication and for this show How I Met Your Father to work. This ending would of worked if they hadn't focused on Robin/Barney again and not gotten such a likable good mother.

I think they made it obvious the mother was sick a majority of the time they were together with their conversation at the hotel

How so?

I must have been oblivious to this.

They dropped several hints during the flash forwards of them at the Inn.

I am just glad it is over crappy ending and all.

I don't understand all the hate for the finale...it was by far the best thing they've done in three seasons...
I think the basing the whole last season on the marriage was crap and a cop-out but I think they did a good job with the ending...seeing Robin and Ted together is fine with me...and for everyone saying they are bad for each other, so what? People who are bad for each other get together all the time.

That scene in the Inn was much later in their relationship after they were married. I forget the exact year, but she wasn't sick that long in their relationship. Sad when you think about they only got like 10 years together.

Edit: scene at the Inn when Ted cries is in 2024, so pretty much the year she died if she had been dead for 6 years in 2030.

Outside of the fact that the whole show was about him telling his kids the story, the biggest hint about the mother being dead came last season in the imaginary robots versus wrestlers show. Ted gave a 45 days speech and he gave a lot of hints there.

My thoughts:

The Good: Even though it made the last two seasons pointless I loved Barney's redemption in his daughter. However, it's hard to imagine what the rest of his life looks like. Is he just a dad that tames down his womanizing a little. Does he settle down with someone. Hard to say.

The Bad: Most everything else. No way Ted waits 5 years to marry that girl. It made no sense.

The Bottom Line: They made the mother too likable and perfect for Ted for us to really enjoy the ending. It's crazy that despite the limited screen time of the mother and Ted's relationship it way overshadowed Ted and Robin that they had 8 years to sell us on it.

How 3 of My Best Friends and I Are Terrible People

Lily makes Marshall give up his dream job to go to Italy, after leaving him once to go to California. He ends up being miserable at his next jot for several years.

Robin gets married and puts hher career before her husband's happiness. The only resolution is divorce. I have a huge problem with the writers spending years on this couple to end it in literally minutes. It shits on the true meaning of marriage.

Barney is Barney. He's always kind of been a terrible human being, always lining the edge of rape.

Ted tells his kids a story under the pretense that it is about their dead mother, but it's about how he always loved another woman. And the kids are cool with this.

Marshall is cool.
