Season 1 of true detective was my favorite season of any show ever.

Season 2 sucks

Season 3 Decent but don’t expect anything close to season 1.

If you haven't seen "Years and Years" it's a pretty good watch and it's only a 1 off. It's not as good as TD or the others listed but it's a good hidden gem

Leftovers is probably the most engrossing and emotion-inducing TV series I've ever seen. I don't mean it's a tearjerker, but it'll make you feel...something. The visuals are great, the music is great, it's just kind of hard to describe. Admittedly, it's weird, so maybe it's not for everyone. That said, I'm not the most adventurous movie/TV guy, so I assume if I can get into it most can.

Definitely watch Chernobyl, as mentioned.

Agree with “the leftovers will make you feel... something”- took me a couple runs at it to get through season 1 for some reason but glad I did. Highly recommend

All the music, especially that piano theme at so many times throughout the show is so good

True Detective Season 1
Barry Season 1 and 2
Left Overs
True Detective Season 3

In that order

Don't worry about the others

Same here. I quit after 4 or 5 episodes the first go round. The smoking cult was too infuriating. Heard good things about season 2 so tried again a couple of years later and loved it. Watched season 3 weekly.

If you watch The Leftovers, you need to stick it out. It pays off by the end of season 1.

Barry is great. I miss it.

True Detective season 1 is good, but overhyped. Season 2 was terrible. So bad that I never bothered with season 3.

I did not finish Sharp Objects. It wasn't bad, just did not feel like it was progressing, so I switched to something else.

No, but I'll give it a try. One of your favorites?

I'd recommend:

Chernobyl
True Detective Season 1
Barry
Sharp Objects

In that order. Haven't seen Leftovers

Did you see "It's a Sin"? From the creator of that show, who also brought Doctor Who back in 2005. It follows a group of young gay men in London in the early 80s during the AIDS crisis. It's really good and heartbreaking.

I re-watched Season one True Detective. I didn't follow everything the first time. Sharp Objects is another one I need to watch since I know the ending and could look for signs I missed the first time. I hope Barry comes back soon.

True Detective S! is good although the last few episodes fall off. IMHO.

I have not but will check it out. Years and Years was totally heartbreaking so I guess he has a niche

TTT, just to echo this. Finished The Leftovers and that show is about as close to a 10/10 as you can get.

Barry is just a perfect comedy. Also a big fan of The Brink!

Leftovers > Barry > True Detective > Sharp Objects

Leftovers is my favorite show of all-time. Just watched it a 2nd time a few months ago.

Other hbo shows to consider - westworld, deadwood, the wire, rome

I still need to watch the sopranos

It’s got to be up there with Band of Brothers and Lonesome Dove as one of greatest miniseries ever.

OP, I strongly suggest The Wire and Chernobyl

ETA - I am going to watch Sopranos after I’m done with The Wire
