what is the plan to separate this show from the movies?

I guess they are going to go in much more detail?

its impossible to top the movies so curious what this show is trying to achieve from a creation standpoint.

As a book reader there are some storylines that the movie didn’t hit because of time constraints.

That really only happened after the first two books though.

The first season is going to be A LOT of filler if it’s supposed to be one season=1 book/school year

Tell that to Starfleet Academy.

Getting a second season renewal is a statement in their confidence, not proof of fan reception.

Guess which is most important?

Not even remotely the same. That's like the 50th Star Trek show/movie that looked bad from the beginning so not nearly the interest of Harry Potter. And Harry Potter is just a money maker in general and it's on a streaming service that does a very good job with all of their big budget IP's. Literally nobody cares about Starfleet Academy.

I'm old enough to remember when Rings of Power was renewed for a second season.

ETA: To be clear, I'm not predicting this will go the way of Rings of Power. I'm just saying getting renewed for a second season before releasing the first season is a sign of nothing.

Much better example than Starfleet Academy. But again, not really the same.

Amazon had just proven that their big budget shows can suck with Wheel of Time being bad from the get go. That made people distrust Amazon and then early on leaks kept pouring out over the showrunners of RoP not really caring about the source material.

Yes, Snape is black, but by all accounts this is supposed to be a faithful adaption outside of that. At least the showrunners haven't shot themselves in the foot publicly yet.

HBO, unlike Amazon (though they are turning things around) is almost surefire with their big budge/established IP shows. It's almost guaranteed to be a quality show, unlike Amazon's Wheel of Time and RoP which looked like CW shows at times.

Step outside the tigerdroppings bubble and you see a lot of excitement for this show. Book sales, despite a certain group's hatred of JKR, are up no doubt in anticipation of the show. It's going to get a boatload ov viewers.

They better spend at least two episodes detailing the House Elf collective bargaining in season 4.

Yeah, Star Trek has a larger die hard fanbase

I am not saying this is going to tank, just saying you are prematurely dunking on people. . .just like people did when Starfleet Academy and Gay Dr. Who were renewed for a second season

The memes were glorious

You had posters on here dunking on people over the RUMOR The Acolyte was getting a second season

Not possible for this to be a faithful representation and for Snape to be black. Changes everything about the character and everyone who interacts with him.

Nah, these shows LOOKED amazing. This was not the problem.

I see a lot of people cautiously optimistic while acknowledging the Snape casting is an extremely terrible warning sign of how this might go.

who said this? The only complaint i've seen was the woke race swapping.

Rings of Power was a disaster for Prime and it's still gonna do 5 seasons. They were always gonna lose money from this show though.

I agree with this. Some of the movies were better than the book, some of the books were better than the movie, but there is definitely not a one size fits all answer here.

What? How did the Star Trek movies being released around the same time as the Harry Potter movies do compared to Harry Potter? The three combined for about the total of one of the eight HP movies.

Harry Potter is the largest selling book series... in history. Over 600 million books sold. The Potter fan base is certainly bigger. Ridiculous to say Star Trek has a larger fan base.

Then that wasn't in reply to you. It was in reply to the massive amount of people saying it's going to fail... because it's not.

I never have or will watch that, but pretty sure that was like two guys, Corinthians and Jay Are who just white knight for everything woke.

It's a really dumb thing to do. I agree, but that's just not true that it's not possible. But was Lord of the RIngs not a faithful adaption because of how they completely changed Faramir's character and motive? You can still make a faithful adaption despite changes. The Count of Monte Cristo mini series that just came out was a perfect example. The race swapped Caderousse and actually made him a good guy (not going to do that with Snape obviously). It was a bad choice but overall was a faithful adaption.

Wheel of Time did not look amazing, gtfo It was cheesy as hell and was one of the biggest knocks of the show. People constantly made fun of how their "dirty" clothes look like they just came pressed and cleaned from the cleaners.

A cautiously optimistic crowd too and also a lot of people excited for it.

I don’t know, the movies are pretty iconic.

I’m thinking they are gonna include much more detail with each season from a book standpoint which should be legit.

We will get peeves, the house elf rebellion stuff, etc.
