I love sci-fi, fantasy, and good movies in general. I cannot figure out or put my finger on why I’m not drawn to Dune, I saw the first one in theaters and thought it was good visually.

Does anyone else feel the same way and have a reason why?

I feel the same way and I can't explain it either. I've tried multiple times to watch the first one and can't seem to get all the way through.

I was bored to tears with it. It suffers from what many big-budget epics suffer from, which is that it buys into its own significance. The characters all walk around speaking in declaratives. It just feels like product.

Same. I owned and loved the 1984 version on dvd. I have tried twice with the lastest version and end up finding something else to watch. I’ll give it one more shot and just accept that although it might be a great, it’s just not for me.

Same. I just don't care about the characters and story. The original was okay, but I tune it out a lot when the endless whispering starts.

Plus, I can't stand Timothy Chalamet.

Lots going on and it isn’t necessarily the most accessible story without a minimum of background knowledge going in.

This set did much better than the Lynch version or the Sci-Fi Channel miniseries but, if I didn’t know the story and didn’t watch it with subtitles on, I’d miss a lot of stuff.

My wife hated the first and really liked the second. Feel like a lot of people are in the same boat

I think I need a summary. I don't want to get spoiled on P2 so I'm not looking around. I watched P1 and liked the visuals, but felt a little lost. Anyone with a good summary or link of what I should know going into P1? I'm gonna give a rewatch and then go see P2.

Would you say that for Dune, the film doesn’t disappoint after having read the books?

First film definitely did not disappoint.

Have not watched the second half yet.

I said after the first film, I greatly enjoyed it, but having seen the Lynch version helped tremendously.

It looks fantastic, but I knew what was going on because I remembered the first one. There's a lot of stuff left out, maybe for pacing or whatever, that you need to know to get the story.

If you come in cold, it will be very confusing.

I think it may be one of the most overrated films of the millenium in all honesty. It took me a while to not fall asleep watching it and once I was able to watch it all the way through in one sitting, it was a very good movie, but you’d swear by the comments of some on here and film critics that it is the second coming.

I am expecting to be very blah’ed by the sequel given its overhype.

Very nice movie, but in the end not near as good as some believe.

Was it supposed to be just two then changed to three movies?

I’d recommend maybe reading a bit about the universe and the different houses. Don’t spoil any thing, but get a grip on the politics and scheming involved.

It’s much like Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings.
The lore is what makes it special to me.

The first book was always going to be split into two movies. If they did well, Villenueve was going to make Dune Messiah to wrap up the story.

If you lack a decent attention span and are considered a "low wattage" person, then yes, I can see how it would be hard to get into the newer Dune movies.

That's what is getting some people...

They seem to have taken the approach that fans will know what's going on, and if you do, it's great.

Which is why people who saw the Lynch version, or those who read the books, love it. If you do know what's going on, the film immerses you into it. But if you don't, it's just a pretty film that can confuse you.

I don’t feel the story is interesting enough to be so drawn out.
