Godfather.
Movie is vastly superior to Puzo's crap sandwich of a mob book.
Witches of Eastwick is another.
I can't stand John Updike.

Gone with the Wind and Lonesome Dove equalled the books. Forrest Gump comes to mind as one far superior to the book.
Haven't read any of those books but the movies were so good I can't imagine the books being better.

I saw the movie first on this one so it probably guided my thoughts of it being superior.

I think the second Hunger Games movie was better than the book.

Ooh, gotta disagree with you here. I think both are fantastic but I still like the book better.

Both were excellent and I prefer the book as well

Sahara
Book by Clive Cussler and McConaughey's most underrated film (if not his best performance)

No Country For Old Men
Although the book and movie are basically word for word the same.....movie leaves out one chapter that isnt very critical
Disagree. The hitchhiker should have been included. And Sheriff Bell's WWII back story was damn important. Good movie, great book.

So far I like the movie adaptations of McCormac's books (No Country, The Road, etc.)
If Blood Meridian ever gets made I hope they do it justice.

Probably. I read the book about a year after the movie came out and I thought the movie was just as good. Prob had I read the book first I would've been more into it. I find that I either like to read it or watch it, but not both.

Forrest Gump
Last of the Mohicans
Minority Report
..much better than the book (or short story) they were based on

Blade Runner -- the book and movie were different enough that the comparison may even be unfair, but the movie was superior regardless

Lonesome Dove. It isn't a movie but a miniseries and the reason it is just as good is because they pretty much used the book as the script.

I'm almost jealous of the fact that you'll get to experience it for the first time.
Which version, btw? There are a dozen different ones, with the theatrical version (voice-over) widely regarded as inferior to the Director's/Final Cuts (no voice-over.) Mind you, I don't have a problem with a well-done voice-over, but Blade Runner's isn't an example of that.
