t got a little bit too dark and brooding later. I guess as the kids got older and the threats got more real that made sense, but the first two capture the feel best.

I mean...if you have read the books then you will know that the tone gets darker in the films because the tone gets darker in the books as the series goes on.

Yes the first two films are by far my favorite because they are whimsical and capture the child like wonder of the story. It got a little bit too dark and brooding later. I guess as the kids got older and the threats got more real that made sense, but the first two capture the feel best.

Same. It may be because I read them as an adult with my kids but to me 1-4 are far superior to 5-7.

Honestly a television series works better, because you can add the stuff from the books the movies have to leave out.

There was nothing left out of book 1. Not 8 TV episodes left out. Book 2 is mostly covered as well. After that, you can get into a lot of new material.

This is going to suck way more than people think. He won't be portrayed as as big a bad guy as he was in the books. It doesn't work. You'll lose the essence of that character. They'll make the students believe he sucks, but the viewer will see him as a hero the entire time. When reading the books, you were never really sure of his true intentions. No way HBO goes there.

my biggest concern is Lithgow. He's 80 and there may be 8 seasons. That's a hell of a lot for an 80 year old.

Valid. You need a great actor in that role. They thought the risk was worth it.

This is all shite you have made up in your mind, you have no clue what they plan to do. I hate the Snape casting but i am still willing to give the series a chance. Im not gonna make up shite and throw it all away on one misstep. Its pretty clear the people making this care about the material and want to get it right.

Bottom line. I don’t like the casting at all and hate the look even more. I seriously hope they give him a slight redesign to make him look better in Chamber.

But regardless of that it’s clear they poured not just money but heart and soul into this. This is night and day as far as quality compared to something like Rings of Power/Wheel of Time. People either need to hop on board and just go on the journey again to see where it takes us or just shut the frick up and don’t watch if you’re against it or think it’s not necessary because of the books. We get it.

I’m not saying don’t watch or don’t bash it. If it sucks, have at it. But the whole talking point of “is this necessary” is just fricking old and as fickle as the first time whatever loser brought it up. If you don’t think it’s necessary, don’t watch. Seems that’s all people have though for critiques.

It’s:

1. This isn’t necessary
2. Black Snape is stupid
3. It looks weird with new characters yet somehow is too similar?? Lmao.

The actual quality and directing and acting look great so this is the fallback point.

As far as the tone, I thought it was pretty clear the trailer was showing the duality of Harry’s life. The Dursleys were played as clowns in the movies but they’re not really that way in the first two books. They’re total pricks. They made the kid live under the fricking stairs and he’s bullied at school AND at home and we have people “it’s not happy or whimsical enough” like no shite.

And the entire tone of the trailer changes once he runs, literally and metaphorically, away from his sad fricking life to his new happy and magical one at Hogwarts. After that, and the music swells, it’s nothing but him smiling and having fun with Ron and at school, running and playing, throwing snowballs, getting the nimbus, Hagrid making snow angels. The lack of media literacy still baffles me sometimes

frick off just because I don’t like it?

The lighting is absolutely fricking awful. The musical score is trash and makes me want to cut my ears off. The charm that was present in the characters from the original films is gone now. Should I go on?

It’s just another way for HBO Max to milk the HP franchise because they can’t come up with any new ideas. Same story with practically every major TV and film production company nowadays. They rehash old stories that everyone’s seen before because they don’t want to take risks. They don’t give a frick now about creating unique and original IPs that people will continually watch for years and years, like the Sopranos.

frick this industry and what it’s become now

It’s usually the same group. It’s why I hardly even visit the site anymore. It’s just bitching to bitch on every single board. Everything is woke and sucks and should go back to the way things were and nostalgia porn for the past.

It’s sickening. And it’s always the old arse mother frickers too. fricking hate boomers and old people.

I don’t mind anyone disliking anything as long as they don’t already have their mind made up about it or actually provide legit criticisms. Yours aren’t.

I feel like for the casting to work he needs to be an even bigger and more believable prick than in the movies/books. Otherwise the flashback bullying is going to clearly have the on the nose racial component of the two rich family popular kids and their werewolf buddy picking on the black kid.

In the story it was a much more grey dynamic between the marauders, snape, and eventually Harry.

The color thing is def. a real thing. Everything in the trailer looks extremely dark, you can barely see antyhing most of the time.

If they just make it the books exactly, don’t leave anything out and don’t put anything new in, it’s going to be awesome IMO.

Current day Hollywood won’t allow popular IPs to be depicted in any way which honors the source material. DEI rules > authenticity and what made the things popular in the first place.

Films and telivision have been doing a ton of this lately where you see almost nothing in detail but the character. Either by blurring backgrounds or lighting like this. It is really weird to me and I'm not a fan.
