widely regarded as one of the best sports movies of all time

Alright that's a stretch I'll give you that. But in no way does it stick out like a sore thumb. We had 131 movies nominations and it had the 13th most votes. So on a movie/tv forum it's pretty popular.

I haven't counted anything yet but I'd bet it makes it out of round one and has a shot at beating a #2 seed. It's a great sports movie and clearly deserves to be in the tournament.

Sure it does

There are Oscar nominated fan/critic favorites left out.

You won’t find it mentioned as a top sports film anywhere else, unless it’s some random 30-40 year old’s opinion.

Most people over the age of 45 couldn’t care less about the sandlot, if they are even aware of its existence.

No shite

It will beat Slap Shot

It will also probably beat the FoD/The wrestler winner

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see it win the whole damn thing

Only on the MTVBoard

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this poll not taking place here? Should it therefore not reflect the tastes of the posters here?

BTW...49, and love The Sandlot.

Because there are Oscar nominated movies left out that makes it stand out? That should make it blend in more by you're reasoning.

Yea you're just wrong on this. Again, this tournament proves that.

It wont but this does kind of show you for some reason cant grasp that a movie you dont like/care about can actually be popular. It's a not a movie for critics. Its a movie that is fun, easy to watch and it mainly revolves around a sport, not a drama with some sports thrown in. But im sure you sat in front of a computer as a kid and didnt get out and play sports.

Ask your dad where The Sandlot stacks up as GOAT sports movie.

Google it. It must be on tons of GOAT sports movie lists, right? Think it’s on more than Slap Shot? I mean, it’s about to win the first round in convincing fashion. It must be rated higher virtually everywhere, right?

It’s going to beat FoD, too.

Don’t be surprised if it wins the whole thing.

It’s not a bad movie, and I don’t dislike it. It’s severely overrated by this board.

It's a not a movie for critics.

No shite. This is a situation where critical acclaim should actually mean something. Regardless, movies were left off that were loved by both audiences and critics. It’s about to mop the floor with Slap Shot, which is loved by audiences and critics.

So..... it’s like Angels in the Outfield, Little Big League, or Air Bud..... minus any real competition taking place.

It’s a fun movie. It’s nowhere near the best baseball movie. It isn’t the best kids baseball movie.

BNB>The Sandlot

This is even funnier than when the MTVBoard told me that The Sandlot was better then Stand By Me.

My dad is 65, I dont really care what his favorite sports movies of all time are. My mom loves it I do know that.

I have no idea the average age of people on here but I cant imagine it being over over 40, so i'm not expecting it to be The Greatest Sports Movie of All Time For Those That Are 50 And Over.

Slap shot was made in 1977, it's older than the majority of the people on here. Raging Bull is an all time classic movie in general, not just sports movie, even the casual movie goer is going to go out of his way to watch it at some point. Thats not the case with Slap Shot, I would guess that there are about 5x as many people on here that have seen The Sandlot than Slap Shot. It's not like this is some dig at Slap Shot.

If you want to label it as a kids movie thats fine but but that is a pretty retarded point. It's hard to understand that The Sandlot is liked more than movies that has a dog actually playing basketball and another that has angels assisting a kid catch the ball? You're comparing the two because they are in the same genre, not on what makes one better than the other.

It isn’t the best kids baseball movie.

And so far, the board agrees with you. So way to be bitter over nothing.

why the frick should we care about critical acclaim? what's the point in having these fun brackets if you are going to shite on what people's preferences are?

That's why I said my piece and shut up. We'll end up with Sandlot or Caddyshack vs Major League, with films like Raging Bull, Chariots of Fire, and The Wrestler watching from the locker room. But then these polls are rarely about quality, they're about nostalgia.

I'll likely be triggered by the wrestler losing to the field of dreams. I think people vote for FoD because they think they are supposed to, but this is all in fun and doesn't matter at all.

some of these can be so hard to choose, so in all of these movie brackets that we've done, I simply vote for the movie that I would watch at that moment if given the choice. makes things a lot easier

That’s fine

Should just be called MSB’s favorite sports movie tournament
Not “greatest”

I factored in critical acclaim/Oscar wins/nominations. That kinda comes with the territory of “greatest”, IMO
