. I don't put a ton of stock in critics but to be critically acclaimed as one of the best movies of the best studio out there, that tells me itll probably stick.

I'll latch onto your first sentence from that statement as my point of agreement.

Many times movies with substantial impact are badly overlooked at first. Other times movies which were highly regarded turn out to be without any qualities capable of making them relevant years after their release.

Tons of nominees for best picture or other critical awards end up falling into the latter category.

I can’t believe any man who grew up in the 1980s would choose Lion King over that badass 1986 Transformers.

Moana is still the best animated movie ever.

This is a beautiful movie too.

You did fine with seeding btw. Some of these matchups show that it was done very objectively with a straight method. Idk how people could actually complain about that. You gotta be a pretty big dbag to crap on so much work that’s done for free just for a little segment of entertainment for a message board. Those people just suck. Shouldn’t feel the need to defend yourself. Just be happy with the participation bud

How can you argue for Tangled over Akira, but get so bent out of shape over people not picking Mononoke over Sword in the Stone? Not picking Akira negates your entire argument for the Ghibli films

You've mentioned how visually stunning it is a lot. For me, and this applies to anime in general, its ugly.

For me to enjoy anime, the story needs to blow me out of the water for me to enjoy it bc it is just not pretty to look at. The sharp lines to everything and exaggerated facial expressions just isn't a look that I like.

There is absolutely no way you've watched Princess Mononoke. The illustration and animation are absolutely phenomenal.

Freaking "somewhere out there" one of the best non Disney songs in a cartoon, and its not getting out this round.

And Hellfire is a top tier villain song. I was in the Superdome for the premier, phenomenal film.

I have, but as I mentioned, I just dont remember much about it. I was speaking in terms of the characters in anime in general. Stylistically many of the characters are pretty similar and that can turn people off.

Miyazaki's set pieces are renowned for their gorgeous, lush artistry. There have been galleries set up giving him the fine art treatment.

No. Maybe it came across as that but that's not what I was meaning. They dont look like humans.

Holy shite, you think fricking Cars should have made it in over Princess Mononoke? No use in questioning if you’ve seen it, but Jesus fricking Christ. Mononoke was introduced to Western Audiences as the Star Wars of animation. Cars is the laughing stock of Pixar that only exists to sell toys to little boys. It’s merchandising first and the film a distant second. That is why it doesn’t belong in this tournament.

Didn't see either, but at least I've heard of Cars. Note: I didn't vote on that matchup.
