very first scene of the show (and in the books) are wights killing rangers north of the wall

Just because it’s the first scene doesn’t mean that the subplot is interesting

quote:

he show is made from books... the first book is called game of thrones... the series is called a song of ice and fire

Song of fire and ice can mean multiple things.

The north and starks are always seen as cold and frozen. Doesn’t automatically have to mean the night king. Jon is fire and ice (LS+RT)

Jon's storyline

Robs storyline was overtaking the iron throne from the people who dishonorably killed his father until...it wasn’t. Jon’s story was to be the lord commander on the wall until...it wasn’t.

The battles end up feeling pointless because everyone the audience really cares about somehow makes it out almost unscathed

Right, why did Davos, Brienne, Pod, Grey Worm, and Sam live? It just lessened the impact of the battle/episode because 90% of the named characters lived. The Night King killed 1 person, the other White Walkers killed zero...that's pretty lame.

As much as they don’t want to admit it but yes the white walker sub plot was a loser for most of the show.
The WW sub plot served to forge the alliance between Jon and Daenerys to take on Cersei together. If there's no army of the dead threatening to kill everyone, Jon has taken back Winterfell and been proclaimed king in the north. He'd have no reason to go meet with Daenerys at Dragonstone or to bend the knee to her.

I would have preferred the WW destroy winterfell, and a few key characters fled south and then they stand their ground and win.

Glad we are done with medieval walking dead.

Nothing about this show from the tech to the scientific knowledge is medieval.

2) the army of the dead was the worst part of this show imo cuz the storyline really only had 2 possible endings. The one we saw where humans win by a miracle. Or the Army of the dead win and everyone dies.

This.

And it's not like we haven't seen John and his idiot friends miraculously saved from the WW before...…..

The bigger the episode the bigger the melt by the emotional juveniles....

This would have been interesting.

(but then the complainers would have bitched about how they got to the NK at the Neck)

It's a feudal system. Typically considered a medieval political/economic model.

Yep. Episodes following this will be great.

The feudal system was in place long after the medieval period. Westeros more closely resembles the early modern period than it does medieval times.

Westeros is much more 15th century Europe than 11th. There is international trade, active science, and medicine is probably on par with 19th century earth. The Maesters show understanding in genetics, astronomy, and history. Most high lords are literate and possess a library.

The ending of the WW plot was kinda hokey and unbelievable but at least we can get back to the part of this show that actually makes it great.

And it's this part that I hope salvages the show but I'm not optimistic.

To end the white walkers the way they did though is to say they should've never been included to begin with. Because I agree with you. The better part of the show has nothing to do with the night king and the show could have been just as compelling without him.

The bothersome part of all this for me is that the night king and his story was turned into show filler.

I hope you're right but they probably won't be great at all.

A conventional tone has now been set and I think we'll get a conventional lord of the rings style ending to all this.

The process of giving the people what they really want began last night.

That would've been soooooo much better than what we got last night.

lets be real it’s bs this didn’t happen last night with the way it was going. They were wrecking shite. Winterfell was getting fricked by the dead dragon as well. No one should have survived

3) If the army of the dead win then we watched 7+ seasons for no reason at all cuz none of it mattered in the end anyway

This would be a George RR Martin ending for the ages. Tells the story about how they were so focused on fighting with each other, when they had to fight together they could not and all died with no true heir remaining save for the NK.
