If he finishes the series
Did you guys start reading ASOIAF last year?!
You are talking about a guy who in the last 12 years has published 1 book and has 2 to go.
Robert Jordan died in 2007 and has had 3 books published to finish his series compared to GRRM releasing ADWD (not to mention in 2005 GRRM had said ADWD was nearly complete and it didn't publish until 2011).
Let's just hope Brandon Sanderson lives long enough to clean up whatever mess GRRM leaves us with.
No, i stopped reading it about 8 years ago when it became apparent what was happening / the long wait between books (I haven't read the final written book yet). GRRM has stated that he won't let another author finish for him so i wouldn't hold out hope for that avenue fwiw.

Even if she split off 1/10th of her Dothraki, that's a big ol' group that nobody (thieves, highwaymen) would mess with. They could escort in a bunch of wagons.
At it's peak, just Drogo's khalasar was 40k - she suffered some losses, sure, but she also recruited a bunch of other Dothraki. The only question is: How many was she able to bring on Asha/Yara and Theon's fleet?
Because 40,000 Dothraki can handle anything the South throws against them, especially depleted by the wars and The Vale siding with the North. Heck, that would be true if Dorne and Highgarden were enthusiastically behind Cersei.

Well, he's done the novellas and other Westeros stuff, as well as work on the show in the early seasons.
I'm not defending the Fat Man (who should just shut everything down for about 4 weeks of no social media, no wine tastings, no jetsetting around the world with all his money and finish TWOW, take a couple months off, then do the same thing for 12 weeks to finish ADOS). Just saying that's not all he's done.

Food for thought...
If Jaime hadn't witnessed Rickard and Brandon Stark's deaths...would he have still killed Aerys?
Would, "Burn them all!" have had as great an impact on him? Having had the full-on experience of watching, hearing and smelling two men burn to death...
...burdened with the shame of being one of 500 people who did nothing to stop it?
So sick of this Mad Queen gripe on Daeny.
Cersei is the one who burned the innocent. The Sept of Baelor should have had more of an obvious effect on Jaime.

passage with him and the Blackfish and Edmure at Riverrun are probably my favorite in the books.
His threat to edmure was the GOAT threat.
When the castle falls, all those inside will be put to the sword. Your herds will be butchered, your godswood will be felled, your keeps and towers will burn. I'll pull your walls down, and divert the Tumblestone over the ruins. By the time I'm done no man will ever know that a castle once stood here."..."You'll want your child, I expect. I'll send him to you when he's born. With a trebuchet."

His "Sons of the Dragon" short story is to be published in October.
And this is a hard date, imagine that.
But..it's just a prequel to "A King's Brother" which is a prequel to "The Princess and the Queen".
More ancient Targ history and irrelevant to our story.
I can't fricking wait.

Im glad to say i havent bought any of that stuff and won't until the books are done. (I have read some Dunc and Egg which were free online IIRC).
Maybe if people quit giving him money for other stuff, he'd try to finish the story.

GRRM has more money than he will ever spend. This is not about money; it's about staying in the spotlight. He will release Winds only after things have died down from season 7, and he will hold on to A Dream of Spring as long as he needs to.

Probably. I think he's been done with TWOW and is just polishing it. He's calling it "rewrites" and - maybe he ends up adding a chapter or two if he thinks about it, but the story is done, the arcs are all outlined, the endings are written.
How do we know this? He delivered all of that to HBO. All we're waiting on from him is the filler.

Not pointing this at King George (just replying to the last post in the thread.
There are a few in here that have read the spoilers and trying to look smart, all of you are jackasses.

Ummm, yeah. Aerys burned more people than Rickard Stark. I'd say Rickard Stark had nothing to do with killing him.

Well I hope you RA'd their asses.
If not, telling us we've been exposed to spoilers doesn't really help.

Keep a list for those of you who read the spoilers and if they're way too on point: Head, Spikes, Walls.

Yes. Don't forget, Tywin had joined Robert and was at the gates when Jamie was told to kill him. Jamie chose to kill Aerys instead.

quote:In reality, armored soldiers would crush them. It's cute that they always get a perfect slash on the necks of the Lannisters, but fiction aside, their slashing weapons would be useless against armor, and they'd need special arrowheads like the ones Gendry was making for the BwB in order for their arrows to have any effect.
