Seriously, Rhaegar was the type of guy that could turn Dan Blizerian gay

Rhaegar and Lyanna fell in love, it's that simple. Romeo and Juliet, neither one cared about anything else. The Kingsguard can go wherever the royal family wants to, like Arys Oakheart going to Dorne with Myrcella, who isn't an heir. Plus Arthur Dayne is Rhaegar's closest friend, they were like brothers. Actually the only reason that makes any sense as to why Dayne would be at the ToJ and not at Rhaegar's side at the trident is bc Rhaegar begged him to protect his son

post of the year
I'm a Hodor and I don't have words to express my thoughts on this. Are some of these Comatose Drogo's high while watching this? I mean really high. Are they "special?"

Myrcella, who isn't an heir.
Yes she is.
It is kind of a dick move for Rhaegar to have 3 kingsguard with Lyanna, leaving 2 kingsguard to split between Aerys, Elia, and his two children. Lewyn Martell and Barristan were at the trident.

Even so, and this is a stretch, because the KG are still loyal to the king.
They are loyal to the King, but they were with Rhaegar? And if your theory is correct, the Lord Commander Gerold Hightower and Ser Oswald Whent chose to abandon their vows because Arthur Dayne decided to break his for a woman? I could see if it were just Arthur Dayne there, but it was not. To me, they are loyal to the Royal bloodline. They would not have killed Aerys, but they weren't going to stop Rhaegar from putting him in a 7 Kingdoms nursing home.

But even so, it still doesn't explain why they are there. They aren't with Rhaegar, they aren't with Rhaegar's firstborn children. They are with Lyanna and, as far as we know, a bastard.
Looking into Dany's visions from the book, Rhaegar believed Jon to be the Prince that was promised. He would have put more emphasis on him than his other children because Rhaegar was all about the prophecies. And we don't know Jon is a bastard. As far as we know, we have zero clue. Rhaegar could have just as easily married Lyanna as not. And if the Kingsguard and his closest allies had recognized Rhaegar as the new King, it wouldn't matter as Rhaegar could have legitimized Jon in the womb.

Was anyone else disappointed that Lyanna wasn't as hot as promised?

Then why did the Daynes name their heir after Ned?
Just a gee thanks for killing Arthur?
Not buying it. R+L is too obvious and has too many holes. Even if we assume a contemplating, honorable, uber disciplined, and intelligent individual had a "Romeo and Juliet" full year, left his family, while he drove the entire realm into chaos and sent thousands upon thousands to their death.
Officially put me on team A+L=J. Who the hell is coming with me?

To the crackpots who think Jon will become the new Lich King er I mean Nights King, I needed a good laugh this morning.
Jon and Dany banging has a higher probability.

Yet swimming is apparently less taxing for a dragon. A dragon.

You're right, they guard the king, which is why they had no business being there. They weren't with the king, they weren't with the prince, they weren't even with the prince's heirs.
They were sent out to guard Rhaegar when he went missing. R then ordered them to stay and watch his son while he rode off to the Trident. That's the only thing that makes sense. Your scenario is silly

Fair enough, but the same stretches of prophecy apply here as with R+L. Maybe Rhaegar had pieced together that Dawn was Lightbringer? Maybe he realized that "born beneath a falling star" was a pretty picture perfect description of the Dayne sigil?

Right? Like that guy knows the standard level of stamina for a mythical creature.

It is kind of interesting to think about, that the realm as a whole may have been better off if Rheagar had killed Robert instead of the other way around.

This is not true. Whent and Dayne were with them from the time they snatched Lyanna IORC. Hightower was sent to retrieve them and call Rhaegar back to his duties.
