It is not specifically winter. they announce the changing of the seasons. The one it season one or two, whichever it was, was the announcement that the long summer has come to an end (Autumn). This one announces that mother fricking winter has arrived. Get hype!
Thanks! That makes sense now.

the simplest explanation is that he is there at Walder freys request to celebrate taking riverrun and to retrieve edmures wife and child as he promised
Also, we're running low on human villains at this point and there is still too much of the series left to shift all focus on the White Walkers. I'm guessing that the Freys (and the destruction of their house by various Starks) are going to be a significant non-Ice Demon storyline next season and they are included here to refresh everyone's memory about how terrible they are. I don't expect anything significant/satisfying to happen to any Freys this episode.
Then next season Arya is going to go all LSH on them.

I hope during the Frey and Lannister party the brotherhood invades and lady stoneheart makes a very impactful debut. I find it hard to believe them including a scene like that without something big happening. Seeing Jamie have dinner with the Freys does nothing for his story.
I thought the same thing. Now that we know the Bortherhood are on a mission for good, we know they are still a part of the story and haven't been forgotten. There is really no reason at all to show the Freys at the Twins again unless we are seeing action. The last time was the ordering of the siege of Riverrun. This time we have a celebration, we have Jamie and Walder in the same room and we have a line that harks back to the line Roose told Cat when he slit her throat. roose said Jaime Lannister sends his regards. Walder says in the preview, "The Freys and lannisters send their regards"
So could be interesting. I do Hope Jaimie doesn't die though. That is a death no one is expecting so it makes a perfect time for it to happen.

They need to. If there is nothing this episode, it will be close to a year or more when they revisit it. That is a long time, what would have been the point to having it this season.
wouldn't make sense to siege a castle for an ally and then turn on that ally based on a deal made with a prisoner whose life you threatened. I see a Stoneheart intervention before I see Jamie ordering the Lannisters to wipe out the Frey's to restore Edmure.

I'm thinking we also have two scenes with Varys involving people on the small council. To further wreck shop at King's Landing before Dany arrives.

Possibly the Freys kill Edmure, since his bride is pregnant with the heir to River Run? Jamie would not have sanctioned this and his new found honor would cause him to eliminate the Freys.

The last episode pretty much confirmed this. Once Tryion spelled it all out and we already knew he knows the most about wildfire of anyone in KL not in a guild, it pretty much confirmed that was the rumor. Cersei can blow up the Sept, may during Loras' trial. Destroying the sept of Baelor, but not the Red Kepp, she loses her son and most of the small council. Man this is nuts, a lot can happen this episode or it could be a major letdown.
We may get Lady Stoneheart, Frey revenge and the destruction of the High SParrow in one episode.
