First time watching it and have made it through season 6. Do I even bother with 7 and 8? I’ve never accidentally ran across a spoiler, but know those seasons are universally hated. I love the show up to this point, so are they worth my time?

watch it Baw.

Then go to the book board and search Crackpot Theories for GOT.

It's an awesome thread that is 1000 pages long.

I still love the show even with how pissed I was during S7-8.

I put random episodes on when falling asleep still to this day.

Just finish it.

It’s a pretty awesome series with a diminishing quality in 7 & 8. Don’t stop. I bet you are less disappointed that folks that watched it real time because you know it tails off.

Absolutely watch them. Still great TV even though most of the storylines don't end how the vast majority of people wanted them to or think they should have...

Watch it and draw your own conclusions. Don't let everyone else taint the jury. You may like it.

For me seasons 1-5 were great (after 5 is where the book material essentially ran out) and 6 is where is started to slide but was still ok. Seasons 7 and 8 were abysmal compared to the others. Really sloppy writing etc. but I blame that on Martin for never being able to catch up with the source material. Without it D&D were lost and awful even though Martin supposedly told them the path to take.

you should have just watched instead of asking here. You're going to hate the last 2 seasons even if you like them.

People that watched each season in real time over those 8-10 years feel way worse about season 8 than someone that binges it. You'll hate it but not hate with the fire of 10,000 suns like most of us

Watch it. IMO season 8 was bad because I didn't like how they ended it. It was kind of stupid.

This is correct. Seasons 7 and 8 are much easier to digest when binging.

Also, some of the main plots wrap up fairly stupidly, but there are still some that are pretty great. And there are some parts of 7&8 and are really awesome.

It's definitely worth a watch, especially since you already know that it's gonna taper off, as mentioned in my quoted part above. I bet OP won't really hate it at all, just be disappointed in a few things.

If you watch those two seasons, you’re gonna have a bad time.

My guess is that Martin told them an ending and who would be involved… and the two dumbasses shite themselves because it involved characters they adapted out or killed off too early.

You just have to watch season 7 and 8 to enjoy some individual scenes and moments, not for the actual story to end the series.

And you’ll need to turn the lights off for half of it to actually tell what’s going on.

They suck but since you've made it this far you may as well see it through to the end to get some closure and be pissed off like the rest of us

Watch it all. It's still better than 95% of what's out there.

Then watch Season 1 of House of the Dragon...a bit slow but GREAT character building, and Season 2 I'm sure the shite is gonna hit the fan!

In all fairness, if you watch beyond episode 3, it's mostly so dark you can't really see anything anyway.

ETA...(SPOILER) Here are a few shots from some of my favorite season 8 episodes.
