I would give you a pass with ser Alliser Thorne, but you read the books. You should know the man that sold out Ned Stark,
Janos Slynt, Lord of Harrenhal.

My guess is you get a little bit of everyone Sunday night. There's enough stuff where you can progress their stories a bit with not much time. It really all depends on whether they want to introduce some new characters/situations to set up next season.
There's a couple obvious storylines they should cover to finish up, but it's hard to say with the way they've moved storylines around from the way the books were written whether they'll delve into anything else outside of what you've named.

book readers, do you like the pacing more of the show than in the books. as someone mentioned, you never saw reek/theon until book 5. imo, it sounds better how the show did it so it wasnt 2k pages later you see him again.
im sure theres good and bad to it

I think the books do it better. Going 2 books without seeing him, it's incredible how fricked up his mind has become since we last saw him. The first paragraph is particularly graphic, memorable, and effective, so I'm glad we didn't have to go through 2 books of just hearing about Theon getting tortured and just see the end results.

I think the books are great and the show is great. Somethings perform better on page while others perform better on flim. Take Oberyn Martell, most of the speech he had with Tyrion in the jail cell, occurred when they first meet on the road(they didn't meet in the brothel in the book)
Instead in the cell he told Tyrion this:
"Is it sheep you take us for, or fools? My brother is not a bloodthirsty man, but neither has he been asleep for sixteen years. I did not come for some mummer’s show of an inquiry. I came for justice for Elia and her children, and I will have it. Starting with this lummox Gregor Clegane … but not, I think, ending there. Before he dies, the Enormity That Rides will tell me whence came his orders, please assure your lord father of that."
He smiled. “An old septon once claimed I was living proof of the goodness of the gods. Do you know why that is, Imp?"
"No," Tyrion admitted warily.
"Why, if the gods were cruel, they would have made me my mother’s firstborn, and Doran her third. I am a bloodthirsty man, you see. And it is me you must contend with now, not my patient, prudent, and gouty brother."
Both were done differently, IMO both were done brilliantly

Theon/Reekm, the books did it better. They HAD to do it like that for the show or risk losing the actors.
I think the show has done a majority of other things, pacing wise, better.

Started on book one last night. So far I'm pretty impressed with how well the show follows it.

Obviously there are some things with the show that gets rushed because of the medium that can be better fleshed out in written word.
The only pacing in the books I didn't like was the way the 4th and 5th books were written. They introduce a bunch of new characters in book 4 and you don't get some of the fan favorites (that are still left
) until the 5th. I'm anxious to see how the show handles this.
As far as Theon's story, I liked the books better. Mostly because as OM said when you get to him he's in such awful shape and you only get the implication of what's happened earlier on.
I still prefer the books for the more complete story experience but the show has done it about as well as they can with the constraints of the medium. And I've really liked some of the compromises they've made to storylines (one that sticks out is when Arya served Tywin at Harrenhal).

Hodor question. Myself and Coco were wondering if the only gate in the wall is at castle black. If not then the attack makes zero sense.

More specifically, is that the only way to pass the wall without climbing over it (or sailing around it maybe?)..?

all the other passages had been sealed when they abandoned the old castles

There are 5, 3 are manned
The current headquarters of the Watch is Castle Black, located in the shadow of the Wall at the northern end of the Kingsroad.
Eastwatch, located at the eastern end of the Wall, serves as the main port and resupply post for the Night's Watch. The Shadow Tower at the western end of the Wall is the only other manned castle. Among the abandoned castles along the length of the Wall is the Nightfort, the first fortress built on the Wall and the original headquarters of the Night's Watch.

But thanks.

Was that tunnel that Sam showed hodor and bran, one of the 3 "manned castle" tunnels... or a 'secret' one so to speak? Didn't Sam say he learned of it in a book.
Had to of been a secret one for them to get from north of the wall to the south side , and then show bran the way , right? I don't think Sams crossings took place at castle black
started on book2. Book1 was awesome. As a hodor, I always wondered about Robert baratheon's death.
And those tower of joy dreams... dang.

Posted on 6/11/14 at 11:08 am to jefforize
also, why cant they blow the tunnel now? Alister admitted they should have done it. seems like they have a second chance
