Why is Dorne so important

They, along with the Vale have stayed out of the war. They have plenty of soldiers and plenty of food.

Why is Dorne so important. I know there was a comment last episode about how Tywin recognized the importance of keeping Dorne "in the fold".

Dorne has an untapped army, while the other kingdoms have largely exhausted them or been massacred entirely (the other being the Vale, which LF holds and Cersei wants to use to take back the North from Stannis and the Boltons).

quote:

Obviously Tyrion, when he was HotK, knew their importance as well when he sent his neice there to be wed. Of course pissing Cersei off was icing on the top for that move.

The only 2 kingdoms that hadn't declared were Dorne and the Vale. Tyrion knew that Lysa wasn't sending her troops anywhere so she could protect her child and would have declared herself long before if she were going to support Robb. Dorne though was a huge wildcard who obviously loathed the Lannisters. Dorne could have very easily joined with Renly to take down the Lannisters for what they did; or even worse they could have joined Stannis, which would have most certainly meant defeat on the Blackwater. Dorne can field about 20,000 men, so that's a pretty huge number in Westerosi armies. Tyrion had to make sure they didn't turn to Renly or Stannis, and it was one of his best acts as Hand of the King to sail Myrcella off to Dorne.

Dorne was allowed certain privileges that the other kingdoms weren't, due to their submission. It is the less populated region. Their strength has been exaggerated, by the Targaryens. They don't get along with the Reach.

Dorne was the only kingdom that fought off Aegon the Conquerer and his dragons.

They were also able to kill one of his dragons.

quote:

The Targaryens returned to Dorne once more, unleashing their dragons. In 10 AC, Rhaenys, on Meraxes, flew against Hellholt. It was there where the Dornish won their biggest victory, when a bolt from a scorpion pierced Meraxes through the eye. The dragon fell from the sky, with Rhaenys on its back, destroying half the castle. It is not certain, whether Rhaenys outlived Meraxes or not. There are those who say that Rhaenys lost her seat, and fell to her death, while there are others who claim that Rhaenys was crushed to death beneath Meraxes in the castle yard. A third option, claimed by a few accounts, state that Rhaenys survived the fall, and that she died a slow death, being tortured by the Ullers. Due to the uncertainty about Rhaenys' exact death, history records that she died in 10 AC at Hellholt in Dorne. Her body was never returned to King's Landing.

All you bitches chill the frick out.

It is the best GOT thread, and as a late watcher, that's why I enjoy catching up on the show reactions from everyone and it's frustrating reading through several pages of bullshite.

Funny though that I didn't call anyone out by name but all of you took it so personally that you had to respond.

Back to the show.

The Dani segment was an odd mix of awesome and dumbass, the former is obvious, the latter - why would she be so unprotected (relatively speaking) after everything that had happened? And is she flying off and leaving the others? I'd think not but... The book version is not as dramatic but more logical.

On the wall, does Ser Thorne (and the others) not believe in the WW and hence the danger posed by leaving the wildlings to become an undead army?

The Shireen storyline is too depressing to rehash. As a Stannis fan, I was trying to find a way to justify it but lacking.

I wouldn't say that Dorne is the biggest Lannister enemy. She has two just two the north in and near Winterfell.

Cersei is livid at the Bolton's after Littlefinger told her Sansa was back in Winterfell and remarried or to be married and then Stannis marching south. Cersei wants to crush the Bolton's and Stannis is coming for the Iron Throne and will do anything to sit in it. So I would say the winner of the north poses a bigger threat to the Lannisters than Dorne, unless the battle/seige wipes both sides out.

Of course I'm not sure Cersei realizes that there is a world outside of KL like the rest of her family (the men) do. So, she's probably not the best benchmark.

ETA. Thanks to all who responded. I replied before I saw all the responses on the next page. Some good answers.

Oh and Bos, I thought the same thing re: Dornes climate and the WW, but the climate of Florida doesn't keep snowbirds away, in fact just the opposite. So maybe the WW are tired of being cold all the time and are headed to Dorne to take over and be warm. They all look old enough to be of retirement age and this has been said that it could be a long winter because the preceding Summer was so long (8 years?).

Let's stop talking about it, and stop bringing quotes you find funny from the Hodor thread into this thread. Things like that start the chaos. If you have to do that, put it in the reader thread.

Let's all strive to keep the MGT a safe haven where all are welcome.
