And GRM left because the showrunner clearly didn't give a shite what he thought. Too bad. Season 1 was amazing, and what Condal et al have done since is bland, nonsensical bullshite. They don't know how to structure a story. It's glaringly obvious every week.

Then maybe instead of promoting his friend as writer he should’ve done it himself. He literally picked him.

It feels like the 8 episode seasons are really fricking up the writers.
That is not the pace of a penultimate episode. To make matters worse, it was basically the TLJ of Game of Thrones from a plot standpoint
