Sunshine is the correct answer.

With something just slightly different it's a GOAT science fiction film.

Honestly it's been a while since I had watched Sunshine so I watched the last 5 minutes or so again. What exactly didn't you like? How would you have changed it to make it better?

THIS is the answer I was trying to remember.

Man, this movie was on its way to being a classic; and then the ending just is kinda silly.
It doesn't fit.

Regardless, I love Sunshine; and the sountrack is incredible.

Completely agree with this one. The first half of the movie had the makings of a great film, but then they decided to reveal the bad guy early and everything went to hell.

I would have had a solar flare or some shite disable them to where it was a one way trip mission instead of some crispy critter astronaut zombie. I loved the psychological stresses the crew was undergoing and you could have had all that up til the end even without introducing random monster guy which just didn't seem to fit the feel of the movie or what had been happening up to that point. I still love the movie though.

The Mist made me feel horrible, but like another poster said it's not what I would consider a bad ending - just one I personally hated because of how it made me feel

Spoilers here:

Eh, it wasn't the actual ending that made me mad, just the lazy writing that got them to that point and the complete changing of the characters personalities. These folks went from being total fighters who had clawed their way out to escape to the car and behaved smartly the entire movie. Then they get the car and turn into total idiots who give up at the drop of a hat.

The running out of gas thing was just dumb, particularly since they were driving along the interstate passing tons of cars. The could have stopped at a bazillion exits and tried to get gas or tried to syphon gas/switch cars, or even try and find a better place to hole up. But nope, much better to just drive randomly into the woods till the gas runs out and give up. It was just stupid.

I didn't mind the ending in Old Country.

I'll throw in Hancock. It wasn't a great movie, but I thought the premise was sound.

The ending to last 1/3 was awful.

Yep. Something went terribly wrong during one of the production phases of that movie to where they felt they had to tack on such an atrocious ending.

Million Dollar Baby. It was as though Clint wanted to see how awful he could make you feel at the end.

Well the way King wrote it they did all that but the army or whatever rolled up on them and they all get saved.

That's a pretty shitty ending IMO.

What? Apparently you need to reread the novelette, because that's not what happened at all.

The ending to the story is completely up in the air. The father and son are traveling south filling up with gas and getting as far from Maine as possible, but seeing no end to the mist. But it ends with him thinking he heard a voice on the radio they had. There is no Army saving in the slightest. It's not a fantastic ending (King is generally horrible at endings in general), but it's decent.

But I'd agree with you that if the army had just rolled up and saved them that would have been equally crappy.

Contact.

Should have ended it with McConnaughy saying he believed her and getting into the car.

No need for the scene saying there was 18 minutes of static. Let the audience decide.

Holy crap how could I forget contact. Every time it think of that movie I think of Mr. Garrison saying 3 god damn hours to find out the aliens are her father.

Spoiler (DUH)

Sheriff Bell just gave up. He realized that he wasn't up to taking on Chigurh. More than that, time has passed him (and the country he knew) by. Just like it has for his father. Thus the title.

I like the ending BTW and the book does flesh this out better.
