They used to put out quality films like this:

Jody from "Family Affair", Jodie Foster, Michael Douglas...

My 4yo watched this movie this weekend and he sat spellbound for the entire thing and wanted to get out and run around in the woods afterward and pretend our cat is a lion.

Looking back at the string of movies made in the 60s and 70s you can see the hand of Walt at work and its really sad how far they've strayed from his vision.

Here's to a magical few years of my little one experiencing vintage 60s and 70s Disney courtesy of his dad.

Yeah Disney has some great forgotten gems in their vaults.

My nieces and nephews watched "The Apple Dumpling Gang" the other day and loved it

world's greatest athlete

candleshoe
blackbeard's ghost
unidentified flying oddball
watcher in the woods
Witch Mountain 1 & 2
Davey Crockett
Absent Minded Professor
In Search of the Castaways
Summer Magic
Ugly Dachsund

If you ever want to go through and have a blast with your kids, here's where to get started.

there's a few on there i wouldn't recommend like black hole and something wicked for kids, but mostly family friendly fare.

The Dean Jones years morphed straight into the Kurt Russell years. Those films were Summer staples for my generation.

Dean Jones and Fred McMurray.

i don't look back on the Kurt Russell ones as fondly, but that's probably more nostalgia's sake.

i think it's past the statute of limitations, but a distant family relative that i have no relations to and has since died tragically, used to go to hastings once a week and hook up 2 vcrs and record every movie in their catalog every weekend on a blank tape. this resulted in hundreds of VHSs with thousands of movies on them. before this family member met a very very untimely death and i got married, i pilfered them and lost them all in a boating accident.

SFR just happened to be one they didn't have at the time.

That is the perfect theme for a Disney film. Dean Jones would play the family relative, Kurt Russell would inherit the VHS library and (while trying to keep the library from falling into the hands of local gangsters) lose the tapes while sinking his sailboat while winning the boat race on a technicality.

If you have a library card download the Hoopla app. They have a lot of these old Disney movies and documentaries available to stream for free.

Swiss family Robinson was awesome. Fighting the pirates was always a favorite as a kid.
