“Normal” is subjective...

Just go see it. It's very entertaining. Asking for a bunch of different opinions about it is going to ruin it for you. Joaquin Phoenix was awesome.

This was their PR campaign, folks. I know it feels like some pressing social issue, but it's not. Unless people actually buy it, which many do. Even cops, apparently.
Never took you for one of those sheep who reads an article and just accepts it as fact. Usually your rants have at least a tinge of originality.

Saw it yesterday. It was disturbing for sure. Phoenix played the part very well, almost too well.

Without spoilers. I left feeling uncomfortable, unsettled, slightly disturbed. Immediately thought of James Holmes. Taxi Driver. The amount of copycats this might inspire. Incredibly well acted.
You reek of estrogen.

It is an incredible movie. I have no idea why people are claiming it's too dark. It's an origin story on a villain who is a demented clown obsessed with chaos. What did you think was going to happen in this movie? It's one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.

Because they're used to films dealing with insanity and ultra-violence that are one big wink to the audience.
This isn't Mr. Glass killing thousands of people off camera and getting away with it. It's Phoenix giving a visceral performance that makes you really believe that he's going through hell and his insanity is taking the people he encounters along for the ride.
They want dark films presented with a candy coating.

Worth seeing now? Wait? I couldn't get a feel from the trailers. It's one of those that looked like it could be genius or garbage.
It's not your normal origin story. You only get the merest glimpse of the Joker you've come to know. It's a non-canon story on what it takes to break someone enough to get them to that point. It's a very slow burn at times (ie: don't go in expecting constant -or even semi-constant -action). Joaquin does a fricking astronomical job.

Telling the public that they shouldn't see a movie for whatever reason will only make them want to see it. Everyone knows that.

It's a good movie. It's a character piece and would've been fine set in regular 1970s New York. Just would've made less money.

A little pretentious.
Like many filmmakers with access to Batman IPs, insists upon itself that it is “film” not a comic book movie.
Shallow and cynical.
Phoenix is great, make no mistake and certainly pays homage to other Jokers, but the rest of characters fall flat, merely stand ins for motivation for Joker to exist. The script fails him.
Music cues are a little over the top, the slow zooms sort of make this a self parody. We get it Phillips, you’re making a serious movie, but what’s the point?
You attempt to give a character with no origin an origin story, except there is no meaning to the film?
People will be fooled into thinking this some great film, but it’s pretty empty-as The Joker states.
This Sad Joker, ironically reminds you that he’s a Batman character, despite its desperate attempt to separate.
So I guess that’s the joke?

Lol, if ranking Jokers it’s
Hamill
Romero
Ledger
Jack
Phoenix
Leto* (with the caveat that he didn’t get a real chance and the movie he was in was dogshit)

Interesting.
I thought this background story had been written or done somewhere before?
My understanding is there are a couple different background stories that have been official?
Or am I wrong?

If you have Hamill fifth and Ledger behind Phoneix, well frankly, you’re utterly clueless of the source material.

DC has been going with “3 Jokers” but it’s commonly accepted that Joker has no real origin. That’s part of what makes him so special.
There’s probably a great Joker movie out there, one that truly grasps the character. This isn’t it.
