Give me opinions on Joker without spoilers.
Worth seeing now? Wait? I couldn't get a feel from the trailers. It's one of those that looked like it could be genius or garbage.

Just curious on people's opinions, but didn't want to go into the spoiler thread.

Without spoilers. I left feeling uncomfortable, unsettled, slightly disturbed. Immediately thought of James Holmes. Taxi Driver. The amount of copycats this might inspire. Incredibly well acted.

ETA: Loved the movie though

It's captivating. A great movie that just so happens to share a character of a famous comic book.

If you only like uplifting warm fuzzy stories or bright shiny CGI crapfests you won't enjoy it.

It’s an amazing experience. I wouldn’t pass on it. One of the top performances you’ll ever see.

It's amazing.

Phoenix is unforgettable. Some of the most committed acting I've ever seen.

Story/cast/setting/tone all outstanding.

In my opinion, that's an endorsement to go see it. Nobody wants violent copycats, but at the same time if you are worried about copycats, then this movie probably strikes a nerve in a segment of society.

That sounds like good film making to me, consequences be damned.

Hearing this reminds me of the reaction to A Clockwork Orange.

Several critics have actually made the comparison to Clockwork Orange.

I don't see any comparison to that. Taxi Driver and King of Comedy are both obvious inspirations.

Seriously? Violent, costumed, criminal protagonists in both films. Similar public concern for both movies.

If you're looking for a full-blown comic book movie, you'll be disappointed.

It's dark, bleak, and parts of it are downright difficult to watch and the humor is black, to say the least.

Phoenix masterfully pulls off the character study of how Joker comes into being.

I loved it.

I’m gonna be honest, and maybe this makes me seem like a sociopath but oh well.

Was a great movie. I left feeling nothing, like I do most movies, other than the peace in knowing I had a good time and was entertained.

I did not feel sad, sick, disgruntled, disgusted, worried, etc....

But that’s because it’s a movie and i can leave a theater and go back to my life without it changing my life.

Great job by Phoenix for sure.

Well yea, most people do the same

But you’ve never watched a movie and felt some sort of way afterwards? If you’ve seen something like Requiem for a Dream and just up and continued your day like normal a minute after it was over would be a little odd

Even though Holmes was not inspired by it or any other movie, and chose the theater just because it was a big release.

This was their PR campaign, folks. I know it feels like some pressing social issue, but it's not. Unless people actually buy it, which many do. Even cops, apparently.

You could say that about a bunch of movies. There's nothing to do with isolation or lonliness in Clockwork Orange. Alex has friends and sex with girls. He beats up people for fun, not because he's mad at society.

I loved every second of it. Joaquin, alone, is worth the price of admission.

I didnt feel a clockwork orange vibe at all. Matter of fact I feel alex and his would have targeted this character.

Alex was only alone when his friends and family turned on him, but it was more a betrayal and disownment. Alex was charming and was capable of simple or complex relationships with others.

If anyone is comparing those two, seems like they just see violence as violence and cant separate or differentiate it.

re: Give me opinions on Joker without spoilers.
Still digesting everything I saw.

He is not normal. The fact he isn't normal disturbs people. It is as if he doesn't belong in this world but God allowed him to still be here. From the very beginning his life is a tragedy, but he later claims it as a comedy.

I find that the most telling and sad part of the story. He sees his own life as a joke. So did Murray.

As we transition to the comics and for me the Nolan Batman movies we see how the joker took his anger and life and gave it purpose. Purpose that made sense to him. And for him it was chaos.
