In those two pics, the first looks to be of Ecto 1 as it appears early on in GB2 when they’re going to the kids party.

Ecto 1 plate in first movie

Ecto 1 in the first movie had the yellow NY plates. In the second is when it was updated to the white NY plate with the Statue of Liberty on it even before becoming Ecto1a.

Had the yellow plate on it in the trailer right? ETA yes.

I am going to go out on a limb and say the "everything happens for a reason" line is alluding to the fact that Egon will be coming back in ghost form.

i'd be okay with that. but i'd be curious if it's a "fat" harold ramis or a "skinny" harold ramis.

It looks like they're taking the original movies as more serious films (which the fans do as well).

The first movie kinda skates on the boundaries of comedy vs humorous drama; nobody really goes over the top. And there was quite a bit of effort into setting things up to make it fairly believable, too.

wow, I get 2 downvotes for this?

I'll say it again- the first Ghostbusters movie is not over-the-top comedy. It's a very funny movie, but nothing is too ridiculous that it's instantly dismissed.

Murray's character is a sleazy hustler, taking advantage of the free ride at the college first (and hitting on co-eds), and then trying to make a buck on what they've discovered.
Ackroyd is his colleague, played straight, seems to be more believing in his research.
Ramis seems like a Physics PhD with a shared interest, likely through Ackroyd. Also plays it straight.

They hire a couple people- Janine, who's the stereotype secretary, and Winston, who takes the job for low-priced labor wages, who just wants a check.

They come into contact with:
Weaver's character, totally played straight.
Moranis, played for laughs, but is a nerdy accountant who apparently makes money (notice his date at his party? She's smoking hot- so Louis Tully definitely makes some cash).
Peck, the EPA guy, who is a megalomaniac... as quite a few midlevel government bureaucrats are.
The mayor who schmoozes with the Catholic cardinal... doesn't anyone watch NYC cop shows? The church definitely is big there.

A lot of the visual humor tones down what could be fricking terrifying- Slimer is cute and gets a cute name. Gozer's 2 dogs don't eat people before possessing them, and watching Moranis play a nerdified possessed character is funny. Gozer as the stylish seminude babe... and then as the giant marshmellow man looks hilarious. But that's just what Ray thought of, it could have been something visually way worse (Godzilla, a dragon etc).

Some comedies are intentionally stupid and slapstick, and could never translate to serious. Ghostbusters wasn't, you could keep the entire cast, tone Murray, Moranis and the mayor down just a bit (but keep them distinct), change the visuals some, and this could be a legit horror-action apocalypse blockbuster.

they're also using the license plate from the first movie in this movie which even further tells me that they're "forgetting" the events of GB2.

Were they going for "babe" there or androgynous godlike being?

I hear you. It was a comedy but it struck a good balance. I feel like that a lot of movies did that in the 80's but its certainly something you don't see much today.

I might get laughed at for this take but Crocodile Dundee was similar in that it had some really good comedic elements without going overboard, captured the tone of NYC in the 80's, and had enough seriousness to make it compelling.

Dudes wore heeled shoes back in the day, remember this is an ancient being.

They didn't exactly film her to accentuate any sexuality.

Despite being in a catsuit, her bust isn't prevalent.

The voice.

The short haircut (though, that wasn't exactly out of style for ladies in the 80s).

What screams "babe" about any of that?

Edit to add: when I say "her," I'm referring to the actress that portrayed Gozer.

Not a fan. Ghostbusters is not a little kids movie. Having a bunch of little kids as the main characters is a stupid arse idea.

This is another one of those fake sequels that's actually a reboot attempt.

Ghostbusters was beloved by children,b ut it wasn't a children's movie, there's a big difference.
