We don't even know for sure it's Spengler that's the grandfather yet, could be a red herring.
I think it probably is though. It's reasonable to assume he may have even had a kid he didn't know about until much later that then gives him these early teen grand kids in 2020. It's fiction, gotta suspend disbelief a bit.

my main thing is that this movie could remove ghostbusters 2 as canon and i'm not sure i like that idea. i love that movie as much as the first one. i know i'm in the minority on that opinion, but it really is a good flick.

Looks decent but I’m afraid that ghostbusters is the kinda thing that maybe should have been just one movie...MAYBE two.

well, it's not referenced in the trailer. not that big of a deal because it could still be referenced later. and the video game that game out a few years ago didn't mention anything about the second movie.
it might remain canon, but alot of the source material, if not all of it, will be pulled from the original i feel. and i understand why. a vast majority didn't like the sequel.

Someone pointed out the car doesn't have the light bar from 2, it also has the logo from one, not two.
But both movies were the 80s and the flashback mentioned as if ghosts happened more than one event. "80's New York City. It was like the Walking Dead. "

In the XBox/PS version it’s next to Janine’s desk. In the Wii version it’s in the basement.

Maybe Egon knocked up some broad, maybe a student of his, she had a son who resented Egon and never spoke to him, etc. Egon knows about his family though and leaves the farmhouse to them.

The car has the roof rack equipment and overall set up of the first car. In canon(at least before this movie), they were the same car but with upgraded equipment on it. But, if that is still canon, it was reverted back to the Ecto 1 at some point. The ladder was moved to the driver's side, and the rear passenger door was turned in to a suicide door with the gunner seat.
A lot to be explained if you're as deep in to it as I am. Lots of questions. But I'll worry about that after the film comes out.
Was so skeptical at first, but I'm loving the feel of this. Very excited for an actual sequel and to see the original cast back in their characters even if for just a few minutes.
Jason Reitman considers himself the first Ghostbusters fan, having been on set with his father for the first 2. I am going to trust him.
