Following Alex Trebek’s death on Sunday at age 80, George Stephanopoulos’ reps are already lobbying for the ABC News anchor to become the next host of the hit game show “Jeopardy!,” a highly placed person with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap.

Stephanopoulos’s agent did not respond to TheWrap’s request for comment, but a knowledgeable individual close to the “Good Morning America” co-host denied that he was “actively” pursuing the role. However, the highly placed person told TheWrap that Stephanopoulos has his eye on the lucrative position and that his team was lobbying hard at ABC, where he serves as ABC News’ chief anchor and political correspondent.

I will take who would cause the total demise of Jeopardy if selected as a host for $1000.

people are going to hate whoever they hire, so it doesn't really matter

Jeopardy is going to die a slow death now

No one likes little Georgie and it's just like his smarmy arse to lobby for this job a day or two after Alex died. The public backlash will show ABC it would be a poor choice.

What about a former contestant like Ken Jennings, Austin, or James?

Trebek swore it would be a woman.

Though his pick was a different guy hated by the right.

I'd watch every day if it was Marc Maron. Especially if they let him guff the guests and make fun of the questions.

Andy Richter should probably get a shot at it.

I want a no-name to be Trebek’s replacement at Jeopardy instead of a big-name celebrity. With the exception of Regis Philbin, well-known celebrities tend to be terrible game show hosts.

It's not a star of the show gig...like Family Feud where all the hosts have had opportunities to be the entertainment.

You need charisma but it's just a question and answer show that moves fast to get through the rounds.

George would be terrible though, he would want to talk too much.

And plus you would want to punch your TV anytime they showed his mug.

I got a buddy who watches every single episode of Jeopardy and could definitely be on the show and he said George Stephanopoulos is way too political.

I agree that Stephanopoulos is too political. It needs to be someone more universally liked, IMO.
