They didn't make something "for the fans" as some magnanimous gesture.
They made something they could merchandise the crap out of. They made Spaceballs 2: the quest for more money with some fan service thrown in.

They did that while making the second best star wars movie in the process. And it's the "search" for more money not quest.

I honestly think I would not have been as excited for a new Star Wars movie if Lucas had been involved. Just looking at what he did with the special editions and prequels, Im glad he was not. Not sure why he thought it was a good idea to add all the silly, slap stick shite to his movies all of a sudden.

He's butthurt because, deep down, he knows that what Abrams and Kasdan put together in TFA is exponentially better than the dreck he put out with the prequels.

All of the studios are in that business. Disney has just expanded into consuming the major existing pop culture franchises to use as fodder for their engine.

Putting this latest film out at Christmas was the peak. Even Lucas, at the height of his quest to sell toys, didn't have the balls to take over an entire Christmas season.

He got lucky, those original 3 films were made at the right time.

He gets too much credit, I'm not a die hard fan, I do like the originals..and I'm glad the cgi wasnt available in the 70s as it is today.

It's easy to shite on Lucas, whether it's over the prequels or the tampering of the OT, but the guy is a legit genius and he's right about what Disney wants to do with the property. The prequels are shite, but their Lucas's shite - they're the movies he set out to make. Regardless of how bad they are, you can't accuse Lucas of pandering to the audience and that's the apparent intent with TFA and it frustrates Lucas. He doesn't want vision sacrificed for cheap applause from the audience, and unfortunately, that is TFA modus operandi.

Call Lamar Outdoor. I want to buy a series of billboards on the interstate and I want them all to show the above post.

He can't be that butthurt about it. JJ Abrams let him watch the movies first and he gave it two thumbs up. He could have just said "it sucked" and walked out and JJ couldn't do anything.

He is no longer contractually obligated to talk up the Star Wars universe anymore.

His prequels were crap. They weren't artistic. They weren't something that was over everyone's heads. They were convoluted, had crappy dialogue, used too much cgi, and had idiot characters like jar jar.

There is no demand for more of the same garbage.
