It was mostly good, but completely overshadowed by Emma Watson's glaring inability to sing.

It blows my mind, despite this being a "Movie/TV" board, how many people on here don't understand narratives, archetypes, and stories that tell truths of the human existence. Yet I read threads like that all the time on here.

Belle is the best Disney Princess hands down.

Bookworm
Selfless
Great relationship with her father
Resilient
Kind

Gaston was insecure and reeked of small dick energy

Lets not underplay that Gaston tried to get her father thrown in an asylum for the rest of his life if she wouldn't force marry/get raped by him. I

The Beast threw her father in a dungeon and only let him out because she agreed to stay and he only made that arrangement because he needed her to marry him and break the spell.

She softened the beasts edges and they grew together to both be better people. Gaston may have went down that same path.

Gaston was a piece of shite. So was the beast. Most men are pieces of shite in their early lives and adolescence until we meet a woman and change to caring about someone else over ourselves, etc

We had a long thread on it when it originally came out.

I stand by every word of my review.

I feel personally attacked here.

Gaston was that creepy guy at the gym that keeps following you around when you just want to get a little bit of time on the treadmill.

For all Gaston's faults you can't knock his gym grind. I need to see his bicep routine.

While Luke Evans did fine as Gaston, Emma Watson was an awful Belle and can’t sing worth a shite.

It really is bad, she truly can't sing and so they pumped her voice through loads of autotune to try to make up for it. They didn't even try to mask it, you have these beautiful, iconic songs that are clearly being passed through a computer. It's terrible.

My kids give me shite for this, but I tell them that Gaston is my favorite Disney character, because in any other movie, he would be the absolute hero. Town's idol strong man that falls in love with a beautiful girl, who is kidnapped by a fricking monster. His response is to get a group of towns people to free the girl he loves and kill the beast that kidnapped her. Everything he does is 100% heroic, including locking up her crazy father and trying to kill the beast, even when Stockholm Syndrome Belle is begging him not to.

This guy gets it

The Beast was obviously abusing his servants before Belle arrived as well

Gaston had a BETTER start and was never given a fair shake

Yea and it was the beast’s pride and fear that assaulted her and threw her in a prison too

Which would you rather pride lead to:
1. A wedding proposal
2. Kidnapping/assault/imprisonment

?

At the point Belle made her choice, she never knew this so that doesn’t factor at all into her decision. If she would have graciously accepted Gaston’s offer, none of those bad actions would have occurred.

“If she just said yea to the sex she wouldn’t have been raped”

Also Let’s talk about the pressure the beast is under.
I think He is all of 16 when the witch turns him into a monster for acting like a immature teenager (which he was) and not only is his own appearance on the line, but his entire castle staffs. A staff who all seem to love him, and he’s shown to care about in return. Now he’s gotta find true love while
Living in the woods alone and looking like a monster or everyone is screwed.

What’s Gaston’s excuse for being a POS?
