Really the Mountain isn't so much a great swordsman as he is just a sheer terror on the battlefield. His armor is almost impenetrable, and that's why he's able to fight so long.

Right, I know he and the Hound fought briefly to a draw, but it's hard to gather much from that.

If the Mountain is allowed to wear his armor, (and for the sake of this thread, he is), I can't imagine too many people being able to take him down.

Ned didn't take Jorah's sword. Jorah's father was Lord Commander of the Night's Watch and gave it to Jon.

So LC Mormosett took it from Jorah or did he just abandon it.

frick you if that's true. Let's all play nice here.

No idea if it's true and I doubt we'll ever know for sure, but the theory seems sound to me.

Fair enough.

And I forgot Tormund, I'd be willing to add him for sure.

His name escapes me, but the mutineer who fought with knives could warrant some consideration seeing as how he got the best of Jon. He's a minor character, but still.

Also, Daario Naharis seems pretty formidable so far.

Left behind I believe when he was convicted of selling slaves and banished by Ned. LC Mormont, with no honorable heir left, passed it on to Jon whom he was grooming to replace him as LC before his untimely demise.

Yeah but he's an annoying douchebag who has already changed his face as many times as Jaqen H'ghar so I'm cool with leaving him off.

Not eligible for the list due to excessive douchiness.

I used to think Gendry was gonna be a badass with his royal blood and blue collar upbringing, but not so sure about that anymore

I'm gonna stick with LC Mormosett, sounds like a rapper from the hills.

I knew that, guess I leaped to him taking his sword also.

Drogo and Red Viper are probably in terms of athleticism the best fighters.

I'm pretty sure Jorah Mormont was never in possession of the sword. Jorah would've sold it to pay for his wife's lavish expenses.

He was most definitely in possession of the sword.

Jorah had a bit more pride than that. Selling a Valyrian Steel Sword is the ultimate low point of any house. The Lannisters lost theirs, and they tried to pay even the most impoverished houses for their Valyrian Steel swords, and none of them were having it.
