Make the main focus on book 4 and new characters, and have random scenes that show what the other characters are doing.
Given actor/actress commitments, contracts, and popularity there's virtually no way that happens. I can't see them not filming AFFC and ADWD in chronological order to avoid main characters getting left out for the good bulk of a whole season.

It's not like they will combine books into a season.
That's exactly what's going to happen from Season 4 onward.

I just saw the Catelyn monologue.
THAT'S what people were freaking out about? Holy shite. That's about the best way I could think of to relay to TV viewers the true thoughts of her about Jon.
Since we're not able to hear thoughts on TV and all.

How do you know that?? Serious question. Where you get that from?? Because we don't even know how the series is going to end yet. Is it all just speculation?

I mean, it's kind of common sense. No TV show is going to leave out the bulk of it's main characters that have survived the first 3-4 seasons for a whole season just to follow the books the way they were published. They already bumped up Jaime Lannister's storyline in previous seasons on the show to keep his actor on the screen.

Because its not remotely practical from a filmmaking standpoint. Think about the Lord of the Rings. In case you aren't aware, the Lord of the Rings is actually really divided into 6 books, not 3 as is commonly thought of. Once we get past Fellowship, Frodo's and Aragorn's journey are split apart by 200 pages each. So Book 3 is Aragorn's, Book 4 is Frodo's, 5 is back to Aragorn, and 6 (more or less) is back to Frodo.
If the Two Towers and Return of the King had been adapted pretty literally, then it would have been confusing as frick. You can't follow a few characters for two hours (or an entire season in this show's case), give it a major battle, and then spend another two hours going back in time and spending time with the other characters. The audience will get far too impatient and it doesn't flow as well as it does in novel form. It would be an absolute disaster if adapted like it was written in the books.
Plus I'm sure that many of the actors would get pissed that they're getting kicked out for a season, and many wouldn't come back as a result. I'm reading AFFC and ADWD simultaneously right now (there's a way to skip around between each book and make it flow as one narrative) and its reading even better as a whole as they did on their own.

Guys we are getting way off track from our true purpose. This thread was created so we can bitch about the show being different, congratulate each other on being able to read, making fun of the non readers and conspiring to subtly spoiling their thread.

I feel like the show is going to let us down as far as the RW. They are certainly beating us over the head with the problems Robb has caused by his impromptu marriage and it's effect on his armies.
It isn't going to come across like it did in the books.

I think they're doing that to soften the blow for non-book people who will probably go ape regardless.
But I agree, it really should come more out of left field.

Did Sansa tell the Tyrells Joffrey was a monster in the book? For some reason I was certain she only told them good things about him but I can't find anywhere that they deviated from the book during that scene.

I think it still will come out of left field. Because we already know what happens, it's easy to pick up on the clues and foreshadowing.

She did but she put up a much stronger front in the book. Also you didn't get the guy singing the number one hit bear song so spys couldn't hear the conversation. At the end of the conversation she breaks down and tells them Joffrey is a monster.

Karstark "I believe you lost this war when you married that girl."
That's not hidden innuendo, that's blatant let me make this very clear.
Not at all how the story was portrayed in the books.

Did Rob kill the Karstark at this point in the book or even in the first season?? When does he lose the karstarks by hacking one of their heads off ??

That's to show he is losing support of the Karstarks. He lost their support in the book as well, I don't think that will affect how they portray the red wedding though.

Yea, I'm sure most non-readers will hear that line and instantly think, "Holy frick, the Freys and Boltons are conspiring to kill Robb and they will do so during Edmure Tully's wedding"
Quit being so dense
