The reason most of the book readers grasp names so well is the style in which Martin wrote the chapters. They are not divided un into events, they are divided into characters. Each chapter advances a different character's story.
In one book (4) he advances one set of characters, then halfway thru, he goes back to the beginning and advances an entirely different set of characters.
Oh yeah, that book only covers half the characters in the epic. He has really spun himself into a complicated world and it is fricking beautiful.

Stannis is Renly's older brother.. Robert was the eldest, Stannis was the middle child and Renly was the youngest.

Renly is also the one who had the knight of the flowers sucking his dick in season one

Am I the only one who thinks they made Melisandre to attractive? In the book they only really talk about how she is radiant and stunning when she is praying and stuff. But in the show she's friggin hot
Well, they never really say how hot she is in the books, mainly because most of the points of view who meet her are either put off by her religion or terrified by her. She's not exactly the type of character people would daydream about banging.

It's not a theory. I reread the first 150 pages of ACoK so it'd be fresh for the start of this season. It explicitly states Cersei is the one responsible for the bastard killing

I'll have to reread that

good first episode. So much going on, it took me a while to remember everything.
I HAVE NOT READ THE BOOKS.
Joffry is such little terd of a King. Can't wait for him to go down. Though I do like his midget uncle.
Looks like a thrilling season.

I think they didn't make her hot enough.

I wonder if anyone tried telling Martin that they guessed a plot line after reading a rough draft, and he went back and killed the character out of spite.
Doubtful.
Ned's death is basically the catalyst for the entire series.

Yep. I did see Ned's death coming... solely because Sean Bean was portraying him though, which made me know his death was coming soon.

I wonder if Sean Bean deliberately takes these roles because he knows that he'll die in the end. I swear...there isn't an actor alive who has played in more death scenes than him.
When I saw Troy for the first time my jaw literally dropped when I saw him playing the role of Odysseus. I remember saying to myself, "Yes! Sean Bean is going to survive this movie!"

I don't understand this. As good as the show is, the books are 1000 times better.

They approached him for the role because they knew it would only be one season. It's impossible to get a film actor to sign for a TV show for seven/eight years.
Basically, he agreed and was cast into the role because it would give the show an established central actor and he would be done after a season.
If you think the shock from the TV show was bad, you should have read the book first. Ned's death is told through Ayra's character and she only sees it from a far off distance. I finished the chapter and thought that he wasn't really killed. It took two or three more chapters for it to sink in that Martin had actually killed his main character off in the first book.

watching it for the 3rd time. I need to download the soundtrack, or at least the main theme and turn it into a ringtone or something

They usually are. But, watching the series is kind of cool not knowing what is about to happen.
Just finished watching and all I can say is wow. Fricking awesome.
