If Cersei wasn't a complete idiot and hadn't alienated half of the realm with various acts of incompetence, then things are much different.
Blowing up the sept was her only choice at the time or she would be dead. Her biggest mistake ever was giving the high sparrow power. The other mistake which might be even bigger was killing off Robert. She essentially made sure she lost her power as queen when she did that.

I actually don't hold littlefinger in the same regard most seem to.
he's a player and dangerous, but things are in motion he didn't plan and things have been set in motion that he cannot stop and of which he's painfully unaware (dany)

Robert would have butchered her, Jaime, and their children if she didn't have him killed then. I don't see how that was a mistake. She had no real power before that.

He messed up when he gave Sansa to Ramsey.
Posted on 7/17/17 at 4:28 pm to KingwoodLsuFan
it was as much to eliminate her enemies and threats of power as it was to save her own arse.
she could've blown it up with just the crazy cult occupying it.

Littlefinger is also flawed by his love for Sansa. He's not anywhere close to his ultimate goal of getting the iron throne. He just wants Sansa to be his right now.

There aren't a ton of people i hold in a high regard - which is probably why i have a somewhat negative view of the recent seasons.

quote:I don't think they lost a lot of people in those fights, and it's been a few years since they happened. All I remember from the books is that their army is considered the second largest in Westeros.
They actually fought quite a bit in the Riverlands against Robb. Since then they have been losing raids to Beric and have had to control a huge swathe of the continent. I thought the books made it pretty clear that the Lannister army isn't in great shape anymore (not to mention their funding issue).
quote:Probably, but their soldiers aren't all dead. Whatever is left of their army could be added to the Lannisters, especially if Cersei can appoint a receptive person as the new lord of the Twins.
I think it safe to say that the Freys are effectively wiped off the board at this point.

Yes probably, but you would have them on a bunch of boats and if you know they are coming and where they are going, could at least do some major damage.
The dragons would have easily cleared the walls with a couple of puffs and they would have taken dragonstone with very minor casualties.
Of course Danny just waltzed up to the place and the head of the line without a care in the world with no forward force having secured the locations. One lone sheep fuker with a bow could have ended the whole story line with an arrow through her neck.

She had to kill Robert. Ned was going to tell him about the kids, that ends with her dead.
Her big mistakes. She arms the faith militant even when they tell her that she will be in the crosshairs. She doesn't cultivate any allies in Highgarden (because of the prophecy). She runs Tyrion out of KL (because of the prophecy).
She also has no perspective that Joffrey is a little shite and let's him run amuck. She strips Barristan from the Kingsguard. She also has her armies storm Dragonstone in the books which is a disaster.
I get blowing up the Sept and killing Robert. Basically everything else has done is super dumb.

At the beginning of the War of Five Kings, Lannisters controlled armies of 70k spread from the borders of Dorne to the north. They've taken various degrees of maulings from Robb and Stannis and Euron. The Tyrells are taking it from Euron. Dorne and Vale are unblooded. Worst of all is Casterly Rock is out of gold.

I just assumed they scouted ahead, but it did have the thought it was stupid she was going in before anyone. when she opened the gate, she's standing in front of everyone right there.
what if there were a bunch of smugglers occupying it and they had bows.

You're right I forgot Ned was going to tell Robert when he got back from his hunt. Cersei was screwed from the get go.

yeah they make it clear Robert had bankrupted the treasury before any of this shite started. they were incredibly dependent on highgarden and now they're at war with highgarden, dorne and the north.
now dany is arriving with a big fricking army, a big fricking fleet and 3 dragons.
the lannisters are fricked.

Cersei's appointment isn't going to mean shite. With the Freys gone, the Riverlands will all go for Jon.

The one thing I'm sure of though Cersei isn't going to go down without really screwing over Dany in some way. That's why I think when Dany enters kings landing Cersei is just going to blow up the whole place with wildfire and kill off anyone who's inside. After that Jamie kills Cersei and himself.
Posted on 7/17/17 at 4:44 pm to OMLandshark
Jon's not even thinking about fighting the Lannisters, and the Freys probably had more money than the Tullys and Starks because the Twins are a steady source of income, despite the Freys being a "lesser house." I'm sure some lord up there would love to be given control of that castle in exchange for loyalty.
I'm not saying it will happen, but it's not too far fetched.

I really don't want Jaime to go down with Cersei. I know that's how they've envisioned it, but Cersei would get some sort of satisfaction from that death. I'd rather he kill her and then go down in glory.

A big point of difference is Dragonstone. Cersei loses a lot of men taking that back in the books. That may be why I remember their army being in bad shape. Since that didn't happen in the show, maybe their army is better off.
