I think there is a parallel with Aggy in that we so often start off highly regarded and end up shitting all over ourselves and everyone around us in the end. We also have a ridiculously huge budget which can make the marginal appear to be quality. This comparison doesnt quite hold water though because the GOT early seasons and books are actually truly great, and Aggy only appears to be great sometimes.
Perhaps Georgia? Undefeated, defending national champs all the way to the SEC championship only to lose to Bama and not even make the playoff, following a similar fate as the show. However, they still made a major January bowl game that will likely be more exciting to watch than any of the playoff games, so...also maybe not an accurate comparison.
Perhaps LSU just for the sheer volume of alcoholism and depravity.

Solid show up until the last couple seasons. But that sumbitch ended with all the elegance of Elvis keeled over on the crapper.
This.
Having actual source material to pull from let everyone fix a lot of the issues that were in the original pilot.
The further they got from the existing source material (around the end of S4 / all of S5), the more the wheels started to come off.
In the end, they kinda forgot to write an actual ending that made sense and just threw crap at a wall so they could attempt to ruin other franchises.

Makes me wish Game Of Zones was still around, which was an NBA version of it.
Magic Johnson was Varys, as one example.

I hate GOTs flop landing.
But thinking back to the Red Wedding. The mountain and the viper. Hold the door. Joffreys demise. Ned’s end. The golden crown. Hardhome. Little fingers last moments. Frey Pie.
Tommen out the window. Ramsey to the dogs.
Damn there was some serious fun.
Too bad it ended in

Add Tyrion and those three are my some of my all time fav characters.
Lady Olenna is an underrated hilarious character in GOT
LINK
You could make a show of Tyrion, the Hound, Olenna, Bronn and Tywin sitting around roasting each other and it would be comedic gold

Show should have ended with Jon Snow rallying the north and allies and battling Daenarys and her armies for the throne after defeating the white walkers.
Would have made a much better ending than the crap with Daenarys being killed by Snow and then he gets sent back to wall and Bran gets the throne (who wasn’t even a main character most of the show and not really likeable).

GoT is one of the greatest shows of all time (even with the below average last season)

The last two season’s blew, but that’s because the fat, lazy frick, won’t finish the damn book.
I can't stand Martin as much as the next guy. But authors don't finish material all the time. Dumb and Dumber were crap show runners and you shouldn't take on a show if you have no ability to write a good story. There was always a chance they were going to have to finish the series on their own, not depend on someone else to provide you with source. They had an all time great show when they had all time great source material to follow and then fell to crap after they had to do anything on their own. They called it in and were ready to be done with the series and are much more to blame that GRRM for the ending.

Anime pioneered what is called the “Gainax ending”, referring to animation studio Gainax, in which a totally nonsensical ending is done for the show because, at a point, the show has overtaken the manga it was based on.
Should GRRM have finished book six and possibly seven by now? Yes. But the runners knew going in that he was notorious about scheduling slip and had written notes for them to use for ending the series should he die.
“Order the best pizzas ever” may or may not have been in those notes, along with a chorus about floppy wieners.

But with the tragic ending of GOT, we have the absolute irony of Martin publicly crapping all over the ending of LOST.

I watched half of the first episode, if recall correctly. A dude was banging his sister in a tower, a little kid walked in on them and they threw the kid out of the tower. I decided to find another show.
Jokes on you. That was the end of the episode.
