stannis is robert's brother who should be king. ned tried to get him to show up to claim the throne

they referenced him fighting with remly

remly is robert's other brother. short hair and beard, who got sucked off by the blonde knight guy earlier in the season

Stannis, I don't think so, but Renly is the gay guy who has the "Flower" night as his BF

Just a little backstory that's been left out of the show so far. But before the targaryena came all 7 kingdoms were ruled by different families. Starks were always the kings of the north. After the targaryens came with their dragons they united the 7 kingdoms under them. So when robert rebelled the only reason the north followed him is because of his friendship with ned stark. Now that roberts gone they feel no loyalty to joffrey who they know to be lannister not.baratheon.

One thing about this show, is that I just can't see them doing it to completion.

Next season is probably the last one they will follow a book a season model.

Like I said in another thread: This is mostly just preamble setting the stage for the fun stuff.

They have already said that they will be forced to split book 3 into 2 seasons (and yes, for those who have read the book, the first half cliffhanger will be there...don't meantion it or use the book's title for the event though) and it isn't like the story gets less complex as the story goes on...

Books 4-5 are in of themselves a split because the next phase of the story was simply too long to be in a single volume.

Bastard child of Robert and can serve as evidence of Cersei's kids being bastards.

Actually, thats not how it really played out.

The last Targ king summoned Ned's father and eldest brother to King's Landing....and killed them.

Then he summoned Ned, and rather than give up his foster kid, Jon arryn (the previous hand of the king whose death brings Ned south) calls his banners and goes to war, marrying one of the Tullys to get their troops as well.

Not sure where the whole Lyanna deal goes down that further pisses off Robert but he gets in this mess too.

So it was those 3 houses (the North, the Vale, and the Riverlands) against the Targs, the Reach, and Dorne.

Lannisters sat out till the very end and victory for the Rebels were all but locked up.

I am sure I am messing up too, but I am pretty sure it was the whole roasting of Ned's dad over Lyanna that started the whole thing...not Robert.

The war was underway in fact before Robert could call his banners.

The first battles were attempts by loyalists to stop this.

This is a random question but did they ever say what specifically happened to Neds brother and father when the mad king killed them? They keep saying how gruesome it was but i dont remember hearing anything specific.

Apparently, spoiler alert:

Ned's brother went to King's Landing accusing the crown prince (Rhaegar) of kidnapping Lyanna.

He is arrested.

The Ned's father (Lord of Winterfell) comes to King's Landing to plea for his son at the King's summon.

He demands trial by combat, and the King agrees. But he says that the champion for Targs is fire.

So he puts Ned's father in his armor over a roaring fire, with his son in a noose and a sword (which could be used to bring his father down) nearby. Ned's brother strangles himself trying to get to the sword while listening to his father scream as he was roasted alive.
