Yeah dude, seriously, don't do that.

Yeah I made that same mistake earlier this morning. I wanted to read more about the "world" and some background on the characters, and ended up reading what I'm assuming will be a pretty big spoiler.

Oh well...

I'm trying to set up first post with some key info minus spoilers, I should have it done by end of day. That way it could prevent that kind of thing from happening. Feel free to ask the people on here as well.

I agree they should have been having sex in a more romantic or intimate way, perhaps show some kissing as well. That would have made it more jarring imho. Not fricking doggy style like they did.

I agree that was a miscalculation. I did not love the execution of a seriously important scene.

Thanks for the thread! I had to pause the show a million times last night and ask the wife who was who.

He must have married one of those few hot broads that venture to various comic conventions. Which is something to be proud of/happy about IMO. To you good sir if true

Oh for me it hit more home that they were getting down and dirty doggie style than intimately. That showed that they really did not give a single frick.

When I accidentally read about one of the characters and found a spoiler I learned of another spoiler that will make one helluva cliffhanger for next season, I just don't see how it will play well on screen without adding some sizable costs to the budget.

Well what the frick? Neither of them have a goal? Just to bust a nut? frick. That's retarded as shite. Goddamn incestual assholes.

I'm only halfway through the first book, so my take may be off a little, but one of the important themes so far is the importance of bloodlines and lineage of these royal families.

In fact, some thing that was skipped over last night is that for generations, the Targaryens (super blood girl who was married off to the savage and her brother) interbred because they believed that only pure blood should rule Westeros.

There is a part in the beginning of the book that talks about the fact that the girl blond would have probably have married her brother if they family had not been ousted from the throne.

The Lannisters (Queen, Jaime, and the dwarf) are probably the second most powerful family in Westeros, so the idea of them interbreeding is not unthinkable.

Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom's protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens. Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; and a determined woman undertakes the most treacherous of journeys. Amid plots and counterplots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.

I DVR'd this show, but after reading that descriptions, I am much less likely to watch it.

I'm putting a better one up. That was Martin's description of the first book. Here is something more geared towards the tv side.

quote:

Everyone keeps warning that "Winter is coming" in Game of Thrones, but I can't remember the last series that packed this much heat. After putting its distinctive stamp on genres as diverse as the mob drama (The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire), the Western (Deadwood), the urban crime saga (The Wire), the period-piece potboiler (Rome), the horror-show bodice-ripper (True Blood), HBO now turns its extravagant attention to adult epic fantasy. HBO has found its answer to Lord of the Rings in adapting George R.R. Martin's enthralling, sprawling, ruthlessly brutal and magnificently entertaining series of page-turners.Be prepared. Game of Thrones isn't a popcorn epic. More like steak: red-blooded and raw, with bone and gristle and a side of brains. There are supernatural elements afoot — a ghoulish menace from the icy wastes of the North, teased in a chilling opening sequence; a memory of dragons from across the sea — but the real magical wizardry here lies in the rich storytelling, embroiling a bounty of memorable characters young and old in a fatalistic free-for-all of dynastic mayhem.

With a cinematic sweep reflected in its brilliant world-building opening credits, Thrones covers a vast medieval landscape of geographic and thematic ground as it weaves an intricate saga of honor, family, treachery, revenge and heroism. That last quality is most obviously apparent in the embattled Starks of Winterfell. -From TV Guide

Since we have competing descriptions, I'm going to enter my own:

Game of Thrones is fricking badass. It's set in a land called Westeros, where a bunch of families rule different parts of it and they kill each other for sport. There's a big Wall in the north part of Westeros that holds back hordes of undead. There's titties and beheadings everywhere. You can't trust anybody not to screw you or kill you in Westeros. If they're not killing you, they probably want to screw you. If they're screwing you, it's only until they can kill you and get away with it. There's a chick across the sea who wants to come back to Westeros and rule as Queen. She has world-class booty that you could eat Neapolitan ice cream off of. There is a dwarf. There are puppies. People die a lot. Game of Thrones, bitch!

Foul, nice work putting all of this together. I'm glad I took everyone's recommendation in watching this. I never did find the time to read the books, but the first episode got off to a wild start. Looking forward to several seasons of GOT. This is going to be a perfect filler between football season, and Spartacus.

And, Albino sister = dime piece.

Yeah everything is great. I just took over a new position at work so I've been having to kill it there. Things are finally starting to slow downa bit now, thankfully. Been trying to get back on lately, just haven't been able to find the time. That, and I ran through Uncharted 2 in like a week and didnt know what else to play. Been waiting for L.A. Noire. Also, I've been catching up on my Netflix. Just about to finish Sons of Anarchy.

And you?

Just been taking it easy. The school year is winding down, students just finished their standardized testing and we have spring break coming up. Been playing The Show and Assassins Creed II but mainly been watching lots of television. I got the girlfriend into Spartacus so about to watch Gods of the Arena with her. I can't wait for L.A. Noire I'm really excited about it. What did you think of Uncharted 2? I need to watch Sons of Anarchy I've heard great things.
