They were asking about Robert's connection to Catelyn's sister if I remember correctly.

His old hand, the one that was murdered, which basically started everything, was married to cats sister who lives in the vale. With her aggravating little kid.

I'm anticipating when all hell's going to jump over or go through that wall.
I am ignorant on all accounts of this show and glad. I would think it's fun to have read the book and now see it come to life on screen, but I really am enjoying that I know nothing of future events to happen and am sure my guesses are going to miss badly. Still, I am looking forward to reading the books.
I am not a fantasy nerd and haven't even seen LOTR. I LOVE this show, though. HBO usually hits the nail on the head with what it puts out. You don't have to be a detective or fan of black culture to like The Wire; don't need to have seen the Godfather to appreciate The Sopranos; no need to be a John Wayne fanatic to love Deadwood. The same applies here. It's about writers and directors who HBO use like Tim Van Patten, e.g., who just always help put out something great -- no matter the type of genre.

HBO in this case also happens to have incredible source material to pull from. The writers/producers being huge fans of GRRM has gone a long way for how the show's turned out so far. Good story telling is good story telling, regardless of genre.

Just saw a preview/trailer for the new Conan: the barbarian film, and it looks like Khal Drogo is playing Conan. Pretty similar roles

Same here.
I read the first 100 pages of book 1 before watching, but I am glad I stopped. More fun to watch at this point... and I'll read after it's over.

I stopped as well. I'm about 3/4 of the way through the book and stopped because I wanted to watch. I'll read the rest of the book after the season ends.

You are in luck. These next two episodes will be filled with amazing scenes, and you don't know what is coming, the shock value was a great part of the book, I can only hope the series does well in that regard.

I can't wait for this coming episode. It is going to be BAD arse! I'm looking more forward to this one than any so far. Halfman!

there's actually so much bad-assery and big stuff that I find it hard to believe they're going to pack it all in to two episodes. I can't wait to see how this all plays out!

Same here.....I couldn't agree more.
So far my favorite character is the midget.
In real life he is a pretty damn good actor.

Same here. The ep title is subtle enough

The first season is great! When these final two season one episodes are done, you guys are going to be clammering for season two!
Just finished the 3rd book.
I cannot wait to see how they put those closing scenes on TV.

So I was bored earlier this week and looking for a new series to get into. I had noticed this thread earlier in the year then saw that it had grown quite a bit so I decided to check out GOT. Now that I've caught up on episodes, here are my thoughts:
A. Thanks to everyone that has participated in this thread. If it hadn't gotten so large, I wouldn't have checked it out (feel free to twss this)
B. Jamie and Cersei: how fricked up do you have to be to frick your twin? And then there's the whole Joffrey angle... wowsers. I wonder if this is GRRM's unintentional statement that eventually power corrupts all families? The similarities between Cersei/Jamie and the Targaryens is interesting (blonde, incestual, powerful).
C. It's good to see Boromir working again. I get a bit pissed at the way Jon Snow and Theon are treated by some of the other Starks (even though Theon is usually droning on about how wonderful his home was, he does offer good advice at times).
D. Tyrion: most fun/interesting character on the show thus far (imo). The looks and words he uses makes me constantly wonder exactly how much he knows (and I love that kind of intrigue). Plus, he slapped the shite out of Joffrey not once but twice. How can you not like a character that does that?
E. Hodor. I think the wildling said it best when she said there was a bit of giant in him. If that wasn't a prosthetic, that guy needs to be in pr0n. He'd make a fricking fortune. Literally.
F. In the same vein as C, it's good to see that Ronon Dex (Stargate Atlantis) found some roids and got a new job. Mamoa makes a badass warrior. I'm also liking how Daenerys is not only revelling in her role as queen of the Dothraki but also has drawn enough strength from it to step away from her mad brother. "Golden crown" indeed.
G. Arya Stark looks like she will be a player down the road. I love how she has gone so far underground that even the Spider has no idea where she is.
All-in-all this is turning out to be a great series. Once I get through with The Night Angel trilogy, I plan on picking up the Song of Fire & Ice books.
Comcast has been sending me flyers that say if I sign a 2-year contract I can get free HBO for 2 years. I may just do that once True Blood ends its season (so that way I can have 2 years of free True Blood and GOT
) It's that damned good.
