Well, that about covers it. Completely took the wind out of my sails and killed any enthusiasm I had for anything else from this property.

outside of GoT, HBO usually knocks it out of the park

And that wasn't HBO's fault.

They begged D&D to not end the show because even the studio executives realized the show was far from being wrapped up. They were willing to throw mountains of cash to get those guys to continue with more seasons. GRR Martin was even telling them they needed at least three more full seasons to wrap the show up properly. Unfortunately those two stooges had full creative control and saw those Disney dollar signs. They wanted to wrap up and move on to bigger and better things.

Every time I see the Targaryens in this shite I think of the elves in lord of the rings.

Thorin wouldn’t have been so cocky if Thranduil showed up at his gate riding a dragon instead of a moose-elk

I'm done with that universe until the books are done.

serious question, for those that hated the ending of GoT, what ending did you want?

After Jon kills Dany, he subjugates the dragon because he is a targereon, jumps on him and cowes the rest taking power.

Hell for a twist you could even set up that council meeting and have Jon fly in and burn them all and seize power.

Jon claims Drogon. Shows up at the counsel meeting. Announces they can do whatever the frick they want south of the neck, but the north belongs to the Starks. Series ends with him at the big table at a feast in Winterfell, with the dragon sitting on top of one of the towers. Fade to black.

Sansa takes Deepewood Motte because frick the Glovers (and they're all dead anyway).

Tyrion gets Casterly Rock. Bronn is in Highgarden. They are at least on speaking terms with the north.

The last scene we see in Kings Landing is of the remaining Lords and fancy people fighting over politics and who leads, nothing gets resolved.

honestly. I am OK with the ending they gave us IF there was any logic to it at all. This is where I think Dumb and Dumber shite the bed so hard. If that is the ending fat man told them about then there is a way you could write that in a well done manner. Instead we got

Bran: I can't really rule anything anymore
Also Bran: Why do you think I came all this way?

Like, I would be OK with Jamie's death if he had gone back to hug Cersei and then stabbed her or frickin strangled her like the prophecy said.

Arya's ending kind of fit. I could see her going off exploring but having the mountain tell her revenge is bad after she fricking baked a family into a pie doesn't really have the same effect as if he told her that in season 4 or so.

I am certainly OK with Jon killing Dany but I was not ok with the whole lineage and azor ahai thing being fricking worthless.

I am not OK with Dany hearing a damn bell and going apeshit on innocent people instead of going straight for the Red Keep. Her being a ruthless dictator after taking power and executing the families who opposed her/the targs could have been enough to get Jon to want to stab her.

Olenna was the last character's ending I actually liked. Everyone who died after her just wasn't given the same treatment. Littlefinger and Varys went down like chumps. Actually Beric may be the only decent death...but I am really grasping at straws for well written season 8 deaths.

Hound/Mountain deaths were solid. I thought that was great as it made sense that they have been at odds their entire lives, and the Mountain always got the better of the Hound. So that was his chance for redemption a bit and he got to take him/them both out.

I also thought Littlefinger went out the way he should have, my problem was just with the execution of it. The idea that he fricked himself because he was too cocky and overconfident that he was pulling the strings, that's a good plan. But the execution felt rushed (which it was). I'll still give it a "decent" death for him though.

I was also good with Varys's death too. Made sense the way they played it out, and it was another chink in the Jon/Dany team armor.

There were a lot of good things in S7 and S8 IMO. The problem was the overall/main plots were just so completely stupid that it overshadowed the good parts.

Should have listened to him. Hell guy knew he will need three more lifetimes to complete the books!

Yeah that totally worked out for them! Dumb Jack Asses!

I can see if they were maybe burnt out. If that was the case just say it, give HBO the opportunity to go out an get the best money could buy to wrap it up. HBO would have definitely done this, also I think GRRM would have come back to consult ounce D&D where gone. As in him being all in on the new show. But D&D let there ego's deprive the fans of a well done ending the fans deserved. A fresh set of eyes on seasons 7&8 under the fat mans guidance probably would have been been epic.

I don’t pick up on your meaning but just saying Aria feeding that a-hole his family was a rare satisfying moment to me.

This is one of the clearest indicators and consequences of the rush job. This should have played out much longer, instead she starts getting sassy and snappy earlier and then just snaps. Iirc.

Im cancelling as well.

My retaliation for how bad GoT ended is not watching or supporting this one any time soon. I may come back in a year or so when it doesn't matter.
