Because its the cool thing to do.

They didn't stick the landing, I get it. Im as frustrated as anyone, but the previous 6 seasons were some of the most fun I've had watching TV and reading the post show recaps.

How is really disliking a shows ending that the majority of people disliked the cool thing to do? I dont think many argue that for a long time it was as good as TV gets. But that doesnt change the fact that the ending made almost all of those cool story lines useless.

I don't think the hate for GoT is all that great outside the online movie/TV communities who sit around and discuss this stuff. Your average Joe at the WaterCooler is still like 'Yeah, Game of thrones? That was pretty cool. I could do another show like that."

The pure hatred for it? Sure probably mostly in online communities. But this ending was considered so bad that even many casuals were at least a little disappointed. Everyone could tell it was rushed.

In regards to this show, there would definitely tons more hype had GOT had a better ending. Not saying that there aren’t people excited, but the excitement would have been greater.

I might give this show a try still.

Odds that a significant number of those saying they won't watch will be in the HotD thread later talking about it?

Lulz at all the GoT fans claiming they won’t watch.
We’ll all watch.

Pretty sure they don’t have that ability to restrict a specific thread from being posted on but feel free to put me #1 on that list of yours

Comparisons to the early seasons of GOT, when it was legendarily good, will be unavoidable. The constant reminders will be in every scene.

Therefore this will suck because of that.

I’m over anything related to GOT. frick D&D

I can’t see Matt Smith in character there. The costume is too obvious to me

I just hope there's the same level of nudity as GOT.

Why would anyone watch this and invest time in it after what happened with GOT? No thanks.

serious question, for those that hated the ending of GoT, what ending did you want?

Disclaimer.. I didn't care for the ending either. I was hoping for John and Daenerys to rule together.

I think the hate for GoT is way overstated. The ending was rushed and sucked but the series as a whole is still next level.

It's even better when you watch it as a whole and weren't waiting 3 years between seasons for 8 episodes

I'm doing a rewatch right now because my dad recently moved in with me and he's never seen in. We've just made it to season 7 and damn it's been good. I'm curious to see how I feel when I get to the ending. The show definitely flows better not having to wait two year to watch a season.

A meaning to Jon’s parentage and a more climactic battle with the white walkers that I can see (speaking of, this trailer looked exceptionally dark when I watched it). Also, Jaime deserved better.

I would’ve settled for one that didn’t have every major character completely betray their entire character arc and motivations out of the blue.

If you’re trying to suggest that there was no way they could’ve pulled off an ending that makes everyone happy, that’s true, but there’s a massive difference between being unable to have a great ending and actively antagonizing the fanbase by not even trying to come to a good or atleast interesting resolution to the story because you’re simply bored of being the GOTs show runners

Also just so we are clear, the issue isn’t specifically the final ending and scenes that wrapped up the show, although it is certainly complete and utter nonsense the way they landed there as well, the issues started in season 5 in terms of the writing falling off a Cliff, and they kind of salvaged it in season 7 in some pieces and then weirdly season 8s sole mission seemed to be to reverse every characters progress and divert expectations which led to longer term issues (I.e the white walkers getting wiped out before Cercei, in the moment felt really cool and wow, but ultimately resulted in the entire Wall Storyline seem completely useless and unimportant to the story in totality, and was the final nail in neutering the Jon Snow character completely- until they continued to nail that same coffin for the rest of the show anyway)

They even managed to neuter the thing that makes the Targaryen family and it’s history so interesting (and thus making this series boring from the jump). And that thing isn’t dragons. They are just pure evil! No need to think any further than that! Just evil guys being evil, and if there are any good ones, they’ll eventually turn evil because genes and all. Bad guys are bad and good guys are good. Let’s give them all red light sabers and finish it off

Never got the hate for S7. It was very good and on IMDB with 50k+ fan votes, every episode is very well rated.

Hell, i even liked the first 3 episodes of the last season. Its the last 3 episodes that went off the rales.

This is what bothered me the most, as well. They also spent several seasons building to a big duel between John and the night king that never materialized. It was all rushed. The white walker stuff should've played out over close to a season, not one episode. Nonetheless, I'm still pumped for this new show.

It’s all intertwined though. I liked some of those things in the moment until I realized what those moments were sacrificing for the short term pay off of a twist.

Season 7 seemed like it was getting it back on track storywise, then you realize it was mostly just the equivalent of tapping someone on their opposite shoulder so they’ll look the wrong way. Also when it started to become a Seth Rogan level writing team with how many dick and fart jokes they would shoe horn into every scene
