Ultimately it was about Ford v Ferrari.
Agreed and it was obviously the bigger and main conflict.

Good movie. Very entertaining. The Oscar buzz was an exaggeration. I don’t see any wins for this. Maybe a nomination or two.

Something I learned from doing research on the movie before I went. All of the Shelby cars in the movie are authentic continuations of the Shelby Cobras and GT40s, manufactured in South Africa, right down to every factory nut and bolt. GT40s = $300,000, Cobras = $ 180,000.
Carroll Shelby, told a story about a seventeen year old girl named Carol Connors that came to his office one day wanting to buy a Cobra.
He informed her that Cobra's cost a lot of money. She replied: I know that. I have the money, I'm a song writer and I've made good money.
He said after he sold her the Cobra, a few months later The rock group The Rip Chords, had a number one hit, Hey Little Cobra written by Carol Connors. It spent one week at number one. Then the Beatles came on the scene and knocked it out. He said he has hated the Beatles ever since.

For anyone that wants to see more in depth story about this rivalry you should check out The 24 Hour War. It's a documentary directed by Adam Carolla and Nate Adams here's a trailor. Can find it on Netflix and a few other streaming sites I think.

In early stages of the film's production, Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt were cast in the starring roles, but those plans fell through.

Hide your eyes because I don't know how to do the blackout thing.
good flick
After watching I went back and researched the story.
There was some old dude in Wisconsin claiming to be Ken Miles, story goes he was mangled up and Ford paid him $2MM to go away because they didn't want him out in public because that was when Ralph Nader was taking off with the safety crusade, which was aimed at Ford Racing as one of its big targets.

So a brutal racing death was better than a racing crash with a survivor?

Saw it today.Great movie!
Racing scenes were unbelievable as was Bale who also has great chemistry with Damon.
I thought the way they shot racing scenes was pretty incredible. I caught my self digging my fingers into the arm rest a couple of times... and the acting was excellent. I really loved this movie.

I have problems picturing Matt Damon as Carroll Shelby though. Couldn't they have found someone else?
You think that's bad, they had Jon Bernthal as a mid-1960s Lee Iococca.
Lee Iococca WISHED he looked like Jon Bernthal:

I really enjoyed this movie. Christian Bale nailed his character.
Like someone else said earlier, the racing scenes were spectacular. When Shelby gave Henry Ford II a ride I was scared just watching.
If you think that you have to appreciate cars and/or racing to get into this movie you are wrong.

I agree with all of this. Bale was great, but the whole cast was very good. Damon, Bernthal, whoever played Henry Ford II, everyone delivered.
I was a bit worried about the runtime, but the movie moved quickly without rushing character development.
You don't need to enjoy cars or know the story walking in to enjoy the movie. I wasn't even super familiar with Le Mans going in and liked the movie a lot.

Saw this movie last night. Absolutely fantastic and is my favorite movie I have seen this year. Loved it when Shelby is giving the why he shouldn’t be fired speech. “The only thing that hasn’t breaked is the brakes”

For anyone that has seen this movie or plans to see it there is a great youtube video of John Ficarra telling the story of the 1965 Lemans race that leads up to this film. 1965 was also Ford vs Ferrari. It is a fantastic story with excellent storytelling but be aware it is 20 minutes long but worth the time if you are interested in the story.

I had heard of Christian Bale, but couldn't tell you a movie he was in before this one. He was excellent in the character of Ken Miles.
He's the biggest and most talented actor in the world so I find that VERY hard to believe.
Excellent movie though. I prefer the aspect of Ford battling Ferrari rather them doing it solely on just Carrol Shelby or doing it solely on Ken Miles. I didn't know anything about this story but I thought it was pretty surprising that Ford could ever build a better car than Ferrari could honestly.
Racing scenes were absolutely excellent.
Matt Damon was outstanding as Shelby. I'm a big Bale fan, but I thought Damon did the best acting in the movie.
I'd say outside of Rush, this is one of the best racing movies I've seen in a long time. I honestly don't see any racing movie ever topping Rush. Thought that movie was fricking excellent.
Bernthal, McKinnon, and the guy who played Henry ford also were great. I agree with the person who said that the best scene in the movie was where Shelby tried to defend why he shouldn't be driving, along with him driving Henry Ford.

Josh Lucus was also very good as
Leo Beebe (Ford's yes man)
I heard his family is extremely pissed at the portrayal.

Supposedly he wasn’t near the pain in the arse as he’s portrayed.
