It doesn’t bother me except for the fact that the entire TFA movie set her up to be a Skywalker.

There is nothing TFA that sets her up to be a Skywalker. Nothing.

Did you watch TFA? Did I imagine the part where she’s an orphan kid on a desert planet that just happens to be really good at fixing droids and is an ace pilot who lives in a salvage yard that has the Millineum Falcon and when she touches Luke’s light saber she has visions of jedi training or something?

That’s like saying, “Other than the fact that he was the Son of God, Jesus of Nazareth was just some random carpenter.”

You completely missed the point.

A lot of people including me just thought she would be a reworked Jaina like how Kylo is a reworked Jacen.

Oh well.

Because the Force Awakens specifically setup the mystery around it and told the audience it was a 'big deal'

And to people saying Ren was lying, Ren actually didnt tell Rey who her parents were, he got her to admit she's 'known all along' that her parents were nobodies

So a bunch of people made assumptions based on works that are essentially non-canon at this point?

I don't ever want to hear y'all bitch about us Game of Thrones folks arguing about book to show changes.

Can anyone explain why Ghost Ob1 would say that the "boy is our only hope" and Yoda says "no, there is another"......if anyone in the universe can be a Jedi/force user? Did they forget how padawans came about?

I know the prequels added some stupid stuff, but what was original cannon prior to 1999 Phantom Menace.

I think it’s still possible Rey doesn’t truly know her real parents.

Come on, you are super smart. At least the light saber visions are "something." You can chalk everything else up to writers specifically making Rey "like Skywalker, but not Skywalker" to create the warm and fuzzies. But the vision nonsense is a massive massive problem.

They also put her holding a robot hand. Yes, there are a lot of robots in this world, but Abrams is not stupid, he knew exactly what he was doing.

Is it really that much of a crime to draw parallels between her and Luke without her being a Skywalker? Maybe it just reinforces the notion that there is a connection through the Force between those who have that stronger connection?

I thought it was pretty clear in TLJ - Rey is the Force's response to Ben Solo. Her light emerged as an answer to his dark - hence, bringing balance to the Force. The light saber vision was the Force revealing itself to Rey.

For all the bad stuff in TLJ, I loved that explanation. This is still a Skywalker story but this time it is Ben Solo's and Rey is his counterbalance.

This is why I commented earlier that even given the nonsense of TLJ there is still an epic way to end this Saga.

If they stopped at everything but the robot hand and visions and she was literally just a parallel insofar as "she's a lowly day worker, trapped without parents searching for answers," yada yada, sure that's ok. But they didn't.

She doesn't have to be a Skywalker, but they could have made her somebody, maybe related to someone involved in the Clone Wars, but something where the visions make sense. Or they could make the case that ALL powerful Force users have a connection, or something. There are options.

Eh, that doesn't hold water to the "Anyone can be a powerful Force user," kind of thing. They are democratizing the Force, but still trying to make Rey "Special," and it isn't working.
