FWIW I don't mean any harm with this response but... when there have been a nearly infinite number of stories with Supergirl and they choose the one where she's lower character?

That's a terrible idea

That's a terrible character choice for the general Superman and Supergirl audience.

We have other mixed morality female characters such as the ones I named before. I think there's a big audience for the traditional Supergirl. I don't think there is for Supergirl acting like Mystique, Emma Frost, Black Cat, Black Widow, or Harley Quinn

Supergirl has a bit of a weird history as there have been a lot of versions of her.

In the Golden Age version appeared in 1959 (Superman's cousin) who died in the 80s even Crisis on Infinite Earths while fighting the Anti-Monitor.

There were other characters who had the superhero name "Supergirl" who were not Kryptonian:
Matrix
Linda Danvers
Cir-El
As well as Power Girl (alternate universe cousin of Superman) and Ariella Kent (Supergirl of the 853rd century)

Then the one people knew from the Golden and Silver Age, Kara Zor-El, was reintroduced as a teenager in 2004. She was depicted as a, well, teenager. After a storyarc where she gets poisoned by Black Kryptonite and turned evil, after curing her the writers used THAT to get her closer to her Golden Age personality.

So there are stretches in her continuity where she was a bit darker than that original run.

Her more recent comic is very much upbeat, and it is possible that the movie operates as a redemption story for Kara (presumably being jaded as someone who actually witnessed the capture of the city of Kondor by Brainiac and everyone she loved stuck in his ship as a city in a bottle). So the movie could not only work to introduce AND redeem Kara, but also introduce Lobo (where the space travel aspect really comes into play) and Brainiac as the next major villain.

Are you aware of your tendency to create strawmen as a reflex?

You can just disagree occasionally. You might find understanding someone else properly instead of misrepresenting them allows for better resolution of disagreement

He's overseeing the DCU and the scene of Krypto syncs with how James Gunn views Superman. He gets his arse kicked in his own movie, the mutt has to save him, he gets belittled at every turn, even by his own cousin and then again, Krypto does #1 on his face on the paper.

We know he'd rather have him do #2, but thankfully there are some restraints to his 'artistic' vision.

Wow, man, vocal fry Super Party Girl is so gnarly, fer sure, fer sure.

ETA: Now wait a minute, downvoters. What I wrote was a compliment. I dig the Valley Girl, new wave Blondie, punk Super Girl vibe, it works for me.

She's not Mystique or Ridley, Harley Quinn, or Black Cat.

And don't forget She Hulk, or Captain Marvel, crushing men's hands then stealing his bike, helmet and leather jacked. (why's she even need any of them? Don't care) Just like Terminator, 'member? Because she's a bad arse!

But yeah, Supergirl is totes bitchy, slack, drunk , unconcerned and bad arse herself.

The character looks like it should be a side character.

Craig Gillespie on #Supergirl

“I think audience is going to be in for real surprise. It’s very different from other superhero films that I’ve seen. It began with Ana’s script, and you guys have been incredibly supportive in letting us make that film. The ending is very surprising and incredibly empowering. Supergirl just owns who she is in an unapologetic way. It is really exhilarating to be able to see a character that isn’t trying to conform to anything, that plays by her own rules and defines herself on her terms. There are the repercussions that can come from that, so I think it’s going to be a little shocking.”

Why don't you do a better job of explaining how my post related to your question about injustice

Because from this:

quote:

That's a terrible idea

That's a terrible character choice for the general Superman and Supergirl audience.

You responded:

Are you saying you wouldn't watch a movie based off of Injustice?

It isn't clear how my post relates to your response (or is specific to Superman rather than any other character mentioned).

I'll take a blind shot in a general fashion. Possibly a movie about injustice could be outstanding or terrible. But an outstanding movie might still not be faithful to certain characters and might be damaging to the mythos of those values.

That is, even a bad movie could still be faithful and fair to the central hero or heroine. Alternatively, a movie (The Last Jedi for example) might be incredibly destructive to a central character and debatably to the lessons taught about growing maturity, overcoming adversity, and never giving up hope.

In a less religious society sometimes heroic characters become especially valuable in a cultural sense and faithfulness to their positive attributes is a sign of cultural health.

Does everyone have to feel that way? No.

But I like a heroic Supergirl. Based on the reception for things like the first Wonder Woman I think that's the character with the most to teach young people and the widest general audience

Could have pierced them on Krypton.

Could have pierced them while on another planet without a yellow sun.

Could have pierced them under a red sun.

Could be wearing clip ons.
