Finally watched Friedken's forgotten "Sorcerer" (1977)

Holy shite what a masterclass in visual filmmaking. This film came out a week before Star Wars, yet it looks better than basically anything made today.
It's just stunning and visceral.
Friedken always thought this film was miscast, and I do sort of agree with him, but from a visual standpoint, it's way up there. It's not a flawless film, but man did it clearly inspire some future mega hits. I think Spielberg and Lucas cleverly used Scheider and the Frenchman's jungle attire for the basis of Indiana Jones action look and Top Gear clearly used it as a model for some of the specials (especially Bolivia).
And that dam Tangerine Dream score... 4-6 yrs before they were all the rage in Hollywood cinema scores. Friedken in the 70s was just an animal.

Thanks for reminding me about this. I recall seeing it in a theater in BR when it came out.
The scene where they were crossing the old rope bridge was nuts.

I'll have to check this one out. Thanks.

If you haven't seen this - you are in for a treat. One of my favorite films.
The bridge scene is one of the greatest suspense moments in cinema history.

Fantastic film. And check out the original The Wages of Fear. I actually prefer the original but only by a whisker.

This one is on my watchlist but I have no idea where to find it. Amazon?

I don't know that looks like the most 70s thing ever (i may be missing your point), but I totally want to watch it The 70s was the golden age of film making. 80s great too. Now we have sequel/prequel/DEI shite pushing out the real film makers. Inside Out 2, A Quiet Place Day One, and Bad Boys 4: Diabetus.

One of my favorites as well that I recently discovered a couple of years ago.
I just bought Wages of Fear earlier this year and may have finally found some motivation to give it a look.
If you're looking to see Sorcerer, it was on the Criterion Channel in June but with it now July it may be gone. It's worth a 10 dollar blu ray purchase or just rent it off Amazon.
A crank the volume up, shut the lights off, and grab a big bowl of popcorn kind of movie.

One of the classics that I still haven't seen yet, for whatever reason. Need to watch it

That's a great movie. Just brutal. They really knew how to make shite in the 70s.

The "Friedkin Uncut" documentary that they occasionally show on TCM is available for free on the Roku Channel.
