One notorious was Jason Takes Manhattan. They shot one very brief scene of Jason walking around in Times Square. They built the title and the entire marketing campaign around it.
The first 80% of the movie isn't even in the city and all the city stuff was shot in Vancouver.

In Lonesome Dove, every scene that was supposed to be in Texas, was shot in Texas.

I find there’s a bit of a corollary between this urge for movies to be hyper realistic in all aspects and in sports the urge for getting every call/penalty correct
Both start with good intentions but the more and more people push towards it the worse the more tedious and pointless the discussion becomes which hurts the overall product / art.
Personally if the director can convey the setting properly and make it believable, I could care less where they filmed it. I don’t need them to actually film in space for me to buy into a sci-fi movie.

The Riches was supposed to take place in Baton Rouge but was filmed in New Orleans and parts of California.

Under Cover 1987 movie with Jennifer Jason Leigh, was filmed in Bogalusa, but the setting is South Carolina:

Justified. Set in Eastern Kentucky, shot in California. Does a decent job all things considered but there are a number of scenes through the series that are most definitely not the hollers of Harlan (try their best as they do to pass it off as such)

I always thought it was funny that Korea (M*A*S*H), Kansas (Gunsmoke), and China (Kung Fu flash back scenes) looked so much like southern California. Also, Seinfeld being shot in L.A. is pretty funny.

There was a Hugh Jackman movie that came out a few years ago about how he was a guy who could give people their memories back in an apocalyptic world where the sun will kill you and everything is flooded. And it’s supposed to take place in Miami, but every place that they go has plantations and magnolia trees and I was like this is the most Louisiana arse Miami I’ve ever seen.

Jaws was filmed at Martha’s Vineyard, but when they did 2 it was filmed in Florida and you can tell a difference in the water.

All the Marvel movies are filmed mostly in Atlanta but pretty sure not a single one even takes part in the south

I always laugh when they would have the Kramer (was clearly not him) running through NYC. So they just found a tall dude with hair and told him to run through NYC for a few shots.
